Hey! 's me again. I will be getting a bearded dragon within the next month. I'm not worried about costs or stock, etc, I'm mostly just worried about if winter is a good time to get them? I know that they brumate when it's colder, but does this mean that adopting and bonding with one will be difficult when it's cold out?
I can manage temps alright, Missouri doesn't get too terribly cold this time of year. I chose this time of year not because of Christmas, but because it's when I would be home most often in order to take care of them and form an initial bond. What I'm asking is, will they be lethargic and brumating? Are there any winter tips that I should know? Should I just simply wait until it's warmer?

Thanks for your time.

It depends on how old the dragon is--- babies under a year old do not brumate!!! Make sure you have the correct lighting for the tank -- NO coils for UVB and 2 digital probe thermometers -- and a solid clear bright white basking bulb---- NO colored bulbs of any kind ---- temps in the tank at night should be 65-75 --- if the tank is dropping below 65 at night then a Ceramic Heat Emitter is in order -- you can adopt / buy a dragon any time of the year --- just make sure the husbandry is on par -- if you want help setting it up please aske we can post links for UVB's - basking bulbs - and thermometers -- those are the key things for a dragons health ---

Got my Devlyn when it was terribly cold. I used an insulated cooler with heat pack inside top lid for travel

For any transport you will likely need a reptile heat pack and a safe way to move them. The air can be too cold to breath. Below 65-70 F is higher risk for travel so be prepared. You need to use an insulated shipping box meant for reptiles with a heat pack for travel, the heat pack can be taped to the top inside of the insulation, beardie would be a roomy cloth bag. Being in a dark space temporarily is ok. You would use the same guideline as if you were shipping a reptile

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
