Sick baby

Hello some of you may know we just got a baby bearded dragon from petsmart I took him to the vet to do a fecal test and the results came back for two different types of parasites pin worms and coccida pet smart is saying they we can return him and they will take him to the vet and return him to us once he is healthy again but I don’t really trust that but we definitely don’t have the money for medication also I’m not sure if it’s from when got him or because of the crickets also from pet smart we are really sad and don’t know what to do

Try and get the meds---- its going to effect his appetite -- good UVB and surface basking temps are key to keeping these parasites away - your going to need to invest in some good disinfectant to kill whats in the tank - I recommend using paper towels unless you have shelf liner in the tank -- F10 SC Veterinary Reptile Disinfectant
I recommend not returning him to Pet Smart --- most wont invest in taking care of him properly and let him die --

What did they prescribe him? Albon maybe? You could buy it through tracies site. Message her @Drache613. Talk to her aboutany meds, they are hard on beardies and may be harder on babies.

Karrieree is absolutely correct.
You can also use chlorhexidine you can get it at Tractor Supply its 20 per gallon and mixes 10 to 1 so a gallon will last years.

The thing is i believe he came to us sick with the parasites already in him I will disinfect the tank but I think he came to us sick especially because the type of parasite he has comes from other bearded dragons what do you think about this ?

Your probably correct but the Coccidia lives outside the body pretty much indefinitely. If you don't kill it off your beardie will just get it again. Steam kills it and so does ammonia but ammonia is harmful if not removed and aired out. It also takes it 10 to 15 minutes contact to kill Coccidia. Coccidia is damn hard to clear up, I'm fighting it myself, in one of my habitats. Even the steam takes a few minutes of contact to kill it.

yes they do carry the parasite and eventually they hatch some sooner than others -- so I would send Tracie a PM Drache613 and ask about meds for your baby- can you get the test results from the vet - you should be able to have them email them to you and then post them in a message to Tracie-- she can help w/ the meds and may be able to send them to you -- she will then know what to prescribe --- after getting them cleared up you will need to make sure your surface basking temps and UVB are up to par- this is going to help w/ the dragon keeping the parasite at bay --- and I would recommend you switch feeders --- crickets are notorious for causing parasites -- they are a dirty feeder - I would get him over on dubia roaches

I recommend the F 10

Hello,

How is your baby doing?
I agree, there are a lot of the youngsters especially, who are battling coccidia due to being housed
with a large number of other dragons.
Which medication was given for him right now & how long will he need to be on it?
If you can manage it, while he is on medication it would be helpful for him to be on probiotics, too
just for help with settling his tummy. Try to keep him warm overnight to help with his immune system.

Let us know how he is doing.
Tracie

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
