Traveling with my beardie

I’m going home for thanksgiving and have no one to watch my dragon he is 15” so like 8-9 months. It’s a 7 and a half hour drive. Has anyone made a drive like that with their beardie? What should I do? I have to travel home for Christmas too so I’m wondering how this will go. I want to make sure he will be okay and not stress too much.

Oh that's a long drive! A pet carrier, blankets, heat mats, a spare basking light, thermometer, all are essentials I think. Also wet wipes could come in handy. And don't feed your beardie that day, he wouldn't have proper heat to digest.

How much does the bearded weigh?

More than likely he'll be fine.
If he has meat on his bones he'll be fine..

Do you have a carrier?
Make sure he's got heat.
(Hand warmers are great)

Yeah, that should be fine.
People take they're beardies on planes sometimes.
& they do great.

I've driven my beardie sick with worms 1 hour 45 minutes there
And then back..

I love him so much but sometimes I wonder if he’s better off with someone that won’t be traveling so much. I just got attached because I got him from a pet store and he was the last of his clutch. I treat him like a baby even though I know people say that really can’t feel.

I have taken my beardies all over, sometimes multiple day trips. Bring all the essentials, and if your traveling where it's cooler or cold bring some of the chemical hand warmers just in case so you have some means of heat if something goes wrong.

They ABSOLUTELY % can feel. Every single one has a unique personality, they absolutely do bond with us and want our attention. Once your beardie gets accustomed to riding in the car she/he will come to enjoy going on trips with you. The girlfriend and I travel a lot, a normal weekend for us is 1500 miles, any of my 3 beardies ride on my shoulder the entire trip with no trouble. (As long as they don't need to poop, then they get really squirmy)

I wanna do it with my cat. We'll be going 20.

I just don't want him throwing up.

They ABSOLUTELY % can feel. Every single one has a unique personality, they absolutely do bond with us and want our attention. Okay cause I would like to hold him so he not sitting in a box and I was going to bring a blanket to put on my dash so he can feel the sun through the windshield. I just don’t want to stress him out any. I’m bringing his whole tank and he has a place at my parents for him to be in a quiet room so he’s not so stressed out since it will be a newer place for him.

They can't feel, HA! Foolishness! The tantrums when they don't have their way? The snuggles (initiated by them)- the color changes by your simply touch...I can go on and on.
I too was nervous at first with regards to travel. This site helped me out a lot. I echo everything. Rocky would try to jump out of his carrier (my fault from unzipping a small part so I can see him) until now he rides with the zipper down but stays in on his own!
I haven't tried any cooler/cold rides yet but in addition to having the heat on full blast, I purchased the heat warmers everyone referenced and put them in my bag so at no point would I ever be caught without them. You simply never know.

I know others that have their beardies on dash (when parked)- but that's a safety issue for me. Rocky already grabs on to his carrier as soon as he sees the car (no lie)- so I don't think he's a fan of my driving but we've come a long way.

I've traveled with babies to adults, it's generally no problem at all. Use a pet carrier and keep him in there for the most part. Room temperature [ mid 70's ] in the vehicle is fine and although you can use hand warmers BE SURE you wrap and tape the warmers in newspaper . The reason is because they reach a temp. of 150 F, this could burn a beardie if they came in direct contact. You can also put shredded newspaper in the carrier to absorb any mess if they poo. Riding on the dashboard or on you is dangerous in case you have to brake quickly or if there were anything that caused the airbag to deploy. In the carrier is safest for any beardie, especially if there's no one else to hold or control him.

Okay thank you! I always feel like he knows when I’m talking to him and has gotten attached and when I’m gone he knows. I will get the hand warms and my car also has seat warms I was thinking of putting a blanket down and turning it on when he needed to be warm. But I’ll also get the hand warmers. When I take him to the stores with me he usually rides on my shoulder the whole time.
