Questions of a soon to be a beardie owner

Hello everyone!

I usually avoid forums of any kind, as I usually get bad experience on them.

Although, since I'm gonna be a beardie momma.. what else can I do? :D

So.. my questions are:

Any specific basking temperature for a beardie of any age? (I need that in Celsius)

How to tame them?

What to feed them? How often?

Can you "potty" train them? If so, how?

How warm should their water bath be? (Celsius)

Can baby to juvi beardies eat mealworms?
(I am scared of crickets, and hoppers [to death lol])

Or should I be getting small dubia roaches?

If any new questions arise, I'll ask here ^^

Thank you! :)

Another food disaster..... most small dubias from my 500 dubia pack died off. Most likely due to lack of proteins.. I ain't a roach expert though.. I really don't want to have to resort to crickets.... Evil things.. But I may have to get some at the store.. And order some online. I will order some more dubias tomorrow, and will mix dry cat food with porridge for them as a protein source. I hate live foods lol. I will also order a few packs of silks, the cheapest option.

Any tips?

Are you starting a colony or just ordering for feeding? Online is the best bet for getting them - here is one website Better Priced and Quality Dubia Roaches at Better Than Crickets or www.dubiaroaches.com
I would feed them roach food / chow- what you feed your roaches is what your dragon is going to eat --- and feed them stuff you feed your dragon ---- except carrots feed one or the other --- too much Vit A -- dubiaroaches sells the roach food and the dubia dew for hydration - the other site doesnt look like it does that --

we don't feed our dubias protein at all unless sir henry has a random day he eats his entire salad. then we give them dubia chow for the night. they really don't need a ton of protein and too much in them could wind up giving your dragon gout. usually they just get whatever he hasn't eaten at the end of the day.

i'm not a dubia pro, so i don't know what could have killed off that many. i personally wouldn't give the cat food and porridge though.

I am in UK, so eBay is the choice.

I heard that if dubias get too much protein, it leads to too much uric acid in them, and if the reptiles eats that, its a huge health hazard. It's weird considering that dubias are healthy insects.

Is it possible that they die off because it’s too cold? Or maybe the container had some chemical residue like dish soap or disinfectant. It’s definitely weird. Maybe talk to the supplier and see if they have any insights.

Possibly. I have a germination pad and a thermostat. I have 300 more small dubias coming in either this or next week. I'll ask the supplier about it.

My crickets arrived yesterday. 250 of them. I finished building the vivarium yesterday, and it is up from today.

She is a juvenile from a chain store, very healthy, alert and curious. She refused to take in cucumber cubes, but she drank like a dragon (that she is!). Fair enough, she is still new and settling in. She's in the shedding process too. I assume that she is a she as there are no buldges near her vent. Unless that is different than in leopard geckos? I sexed my leopard when he was just 2 months old, and I am proven right today.

She looks cute----- and the tank looks real nice---- make sure your UVB is directly over the basking decor 12-15 inches for a T 5 bulb ---

It's not really over the basking ramp, but it is well over the bamboo root. I might move the root closer to the heater, and see how that works out for her.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
