At 17 inches he is probably between 8 months to a year old.
I don't wash my hands specifically after i handle mine everytime, i think the big danger is if their habitat isn't kept sanitary.

Hello,

Wow, Saudi Arabia, are there other reptile keepers around that you know of?
I agree, he is most likely around 8 or 9 months but could be a year. He should continue to grow & fill
out into his second year, to become fully mature.
What UVB lights can you get over there? I would think you should be able to get the Arcadia brand
of UVB light? Or order it online for delivery. We recommend the Arcadia D3 12% either in a T8 traditional
tube or the T5 high output tube bulb. Reptisun 10 also makes them as well, but not sure if you can get
that brand over there or not.
Salmonella incidences are extremely low simply by handling a reptile but people do throw out the scare
information. While is it always a good idea to wash your hands, especially after cleaning up after them,
but just picking them up it really isn't necessary to do so. Unless you have a compromised immune system
I honestly wouldn't worry about excessive hand washing. You have more risk of getting salmonella from
raw chicken than you do from handling a reptile.

Hi, to be honest I'm not sure if there's a lot of people in KSA with reptiles. Whenever I go to the pet store they would randomly have a few reptiles but not on a regular basis.

I only see bearded dragons maybe 3-4 times a year. This one I had to snatch up because I know how nice of a pet they are to have (from past experience). The wife still hates them, but I'm sure she will warm up to him eventually.

As for Lights, they pretty much don't have anything useful here. The best thing is the sun is shining everyday and pretty warm so I try and make sure he gets to sit under natural sunlight whenever I am around the house. I have ordered the below lights from amazon, just waiting for them to arrive:

Most likely I will have to build him a new vivarium as the ones I have bought is not big enough. The better half will kill me but I don't mind as he needs the right care and attention.

Thank you for the Salmonella information, greatly appreciated.

The 14% will need to be 17-18 inches directly above the basking decor w/ no screen on top- please get 2 digital probe thermometers to get accurate surface basking temps--

That's the key to keeping them and yourself healthy :)

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
