No 105-110- for surface basking temp-- air temp is good --- are you getting that w/ a digital probe thermometer the 105?

I still recommend the digital probe thermometers from Pet Smart/ Petco for actual accurate surface basking temps

I'll definitely get one. I moved his basking rock over, maybe a foot, if that. And it dropped to 98 for the surface temp of the rock, so probably closer to 100. A little fake log thats more under direct light is reading 100. Should I move his rock back over, I don't know if the temperature of the rock being closer to 108 is too hot for him to sit on.

As long as your getting surface basking temps of 105-110 hes fine- but you want that probe to tell you that -- watch his behavior - he will tell you if its too hot or not hot enough - if its too hot he will move to where he can stand the heat if its too cold or not hot enough he will bask there longer and more - also watch for gaping - he is adjusting his body temp to the temp hes at --- that is a good thing

They heat from the backs -- that is why you need the digital probe thermometer --- I am thinking the gun your using is off ---- gaping is good but if its too hot he will move --- and they cannot feel w/the stomach that is why we dont recommend heat rocks or heating pads etc --

Oh, I thought they absorbed heat from their stomach for digestion and energy, that they don't get it from their backs. That's why it's so important their basking surface temp is a certain temp or did I misread something.?

You want surface basking temps to start digestion - they heat from their backs - that is what is going to start digestion --- your UVB helps them absorb / synthesize the calcium they are eating -

Oh, okay. I guess that makes sense. Okay, so I'll move his rock back over to where it gets a little hotter, as long as the 108 isn't too hot for his belly. Since switching out the light, he does seem to be running around a bit more. We're out of kale and only had collard greens and he seems to really like that.

Can they eat red wiggles, as long as they aren't too big.? Google says they can and the boyfriend is going to petsmart for crickets and mentioned maybe getting some.

I think so but fed sparingly as they are high in fat -- you are better off getting insects on line they are cheaper and dubia roaches are a better feeder nutritional wise --- www.dubiaroaches.com your gonna have better luck getting them in the winter than relying on the petstores ---

Yeah, we go through a lot of crickets between general keep time and the amount he eats. And he loves his roaches. Do you know a good place online to buy them in bulk that doesn't cost an arm and a leg where they actually arrive mostly alive.?

the site I posted is good -- they are in Kansas City Missouri -- I have been using them for years - get a 10 gallon aquarium get some dubia food along w/ dubia dew and feed what you feed your dragon as well - feed them at evening so they are good and gut loaded in the morning

He should be able to eat those--- surface basking temps will start the digestion process the only thing that would hurt him if he was to get impacted from eating something too big for him --- or something like a exoskeleton on meal worms which is harsh on babies stomachs ---

Okay, good. I gave him two that are smaller, just to see if he'd like them. He followed it with like ten crickets right after and about an hour before, ate another 10 or so so I think he's stuffed himself.

Yes, he loves them. He doesn't like veggies, I can occasionally get him to eat a bite or two of carrot but he's good about his kale and we just introduced collard greens and he really likes those. He ate just about the whole bowls worth today.
