Bad feeling

I'm so worried. (Hopefully overly) Toothless has pooped three times today, but there's been hardly anything there, it's been watery-ish, mucous-ish and the white part has been loose, instead of kind of firm. He's been acting like he's been real spooked this evening and while he ate decent this morning (noon) and has been eating his greens, he hasn't eaten much this afternoon, maybe three or four crickets at a time and I tried that about three times since about 2pmish.


I don't know why, but I've got this terrible feeling. I'm so worried he's sick and I can't help him. I won't have the money to take him to the vet for another week, week and a half. I actually want to cry because I'm so stressed about him. I don't want anything to happen but for some reason, I've just got this sinking, horrible feeling and can't pull myself out of it.


Just for info, he's about 2/12 months, 9 inches long, weighs about 44grams. He's in a 40 gallon with a 80watt powersun uv and a che (the che is temp) we also have a 100watt flukers basking light but the flukers and powersun together make his basking rock too hot. (The surface of his rock is 108 with those two lights together) I feed him crickets, dubia roaches and the occasional mealworm for treats. His salad consists of kale and collard greens mixed up with some carrots and calcium sprinkled on it. He also has a water bowl.

Nope, no blood or anything. Just the barely anything that looks like a sick stomach sort of poop.

Mealworms are hard for them to digest. Maybe don't feeds those. Try giving him some baby food, no sugar added stuff like prune,apple, unspiced or seasoned pumkin,ect. You can add in a drop of olive oil also. If he has an impaction that should help him pass it. Maybe do a search for other post on impaction. I know it's hard feeling helpless. Maybe direct message tracie. She is a vet tech her handle is Drache613.

Can you review your tank setup a little bit with us, such as the type/brand of UVB lighting, your
temperatures & what you use to measure it with, supplementation, etc so we can be sure it is all
correct for you?
Please post pictures of your dragon & setup for us too.
If you can, try to keep him a little warmer overnight, around 75-80F to help boost his system when
he isn't feeling well.
You can get some non dairy acidophiluz or non dairy organic soy yogurt to help for his tummy in the
case it is upset.
For now, as suggested, avoid the mealworms because sometimes too many can cause upset GI
distress. Be sure the crickets are smaller than the space between his eyes to help avoid impaction
in him.

He is about 3 months, in a 40 gallon. We have an 80watt powersun uv and a CHE on during the day. We keep both on to give him a wider basking spot since he's small in a large tank. We also have a flukers basking bulb but that and the powersun on together made his basking rock too hot. The temp of the physical rock was reading 108 so we just so the powersun and che for now, until we can get a tube. We have to get a different lid first, it's just a stupid sliding screen. It's a pain. Basking is about 100, middle reads between 85 to 90 and cool reads about 80 to 85ish and we use a temp gun that reads the room temperature. (I know the hot needs to be a little hotter, the flukers makes the air hotter but makes his rock too hot for his belly so we need to get a different light/hood when we have the money) I also keep the che on at night and close to the middle of the tank, mainly because his tank sits under the vent and while the air doesn't get below 76, the air that comes out feels super cold. I dust his food often, a few times a day with calcium with d3, if I remember. If not multiple times a day, then at least once a day, or every other day. We only use mealworms as treats. I.e, he does NOT like the living room. I don't know if it's cause it's always a bit darker in there (lights stay off, the sun provides enough light), the things on the ceiling freak him out and/or the doors/windows/light coming from them. But after I bring him in there once or twice a week, I give him a mealworm or waxworm for it. The crickets are typically smaller than the space between his eyes, I get the small ones from petsmart. Sometimes not always because the next store i go to, their smalls are a bit bigger than petsmarts, but only a smidge. I try to keep them smaller, though. He's never had this issue before so I'm wondering if it's the waxworms, since he got them for the first time day before yesterday. The greenish photo of him is just now, agter he judt got up and moved to his basking rock, my camera makes the lighting in his tank look weird and the other is from yesterday. Another thing, I don't know if it'd play into it but it's like he waits until he's on our bed to poop and since yesterday or so, when he starts, I'll pick him up and put him back in his tank, it sits right beside my bed. I don't know if that'd upset him, maybe it got him to stop mid-pooping and upset his belly.? I don't know, to be honest, I was half expecting for him not to make it through the night, I'm still worried. He hasn't gone yet, but thats normal for him. EDIT TO ADD: he pooped and it was totally normal looking, thankfully. He ate good this morning, a good 10 or 15+, which is normal for him first thing in the morning. He's running around normal and looks better so far.

I removed the che and put in the flukers basking light again. His rock does retain heat pretty well, it was reading 94 a little bit ago and is already up to like 99, the other fixtures under the light are also up a few degrees, as is the atmosphere temp. We use one of those forehead thermometers that has a "house" mode for the air/surface temps. Does his rock need to be 105 or does it need to atmospherically be 105.?

We're definitely planning on getting better lighting, it's just a current money thing right now. I read an article that said you should dust his crickets every single time. I didn't dust his crickets this morning, so I sprinkled some on his greens. He really likes the calcium, like he'll peck at the ground for particles of calcium.

This is the thermometer we use. It has a forehead setting and house setting. We've been doing it on the house but I did it with the forehead setting and it was 105, as opposed to the 100 with the house setting. Does it need to be on the house or forehead setting.?


Also, these are the temps with the different light and the temp gun on the house setting.

No 105-110- for surface basking temp-- air temp is good --- are you getting that w/ a digital probe thermometer the 105?

Yeah, I'm using one of those no contact thermometers. It has a forehead setting (which reads like 110) and a house setting, for room and food and surfaces, and when I point it at his rock, it reads about 105, maybe closer to 107 by now. The air temp is still showing about 95.

I still recommend the digital probe thermometers from Pet Smart/ Petco for actual accurate surface basking temps
