Bearded dragon frantically glass surfing

My 4 year old male bearded dragon has been constantly glass surfing the past few days. I have no idea why. The temp is 99f. He gets good daily. He has hides.

One thing is that I started feeding him pellets again. He loves the pellets. I'm wondering if he's glass surfing to try to get me to give him more? I gave him more yesterday and it helped but I don't want to give in to it. He also is shedding around his mouth.

About a year or more ago I was taking him out to give him a bath and he tried to jump back into the enclosure and hurt himself. He got a scab on his lip. It healed and is not even noticeable anymore, however, when he glass surfs a lot it regains noticeability. It gets worse and then goes away again when he stops glass surfing. That's a large part in why I don't want him glass surfing.

Also someone recommended the pellets because I made a post about how he hasn't been shedding as much and they said that would help (which it has).

Any responses are much appreciated.

Is your uvb up to par? How old is your bulb? What type of bulb? What is his basking temp and how are you taking it? Can you post picks of your setup? And specs on bulbs? It's best to rule out the simple stuff first. :)

Please go over the UVB is it a coil or a long tube fixture - this is a reason for glass surfing a long w/ surface basking temps and temps in the tank - surface basking temps need to be taken w/ a digital probe thermometer

Thanks for the response! The UVB is a t5 tube. It is definitely up to par. I replaced it about a month ago. His basking temp is 95-105f. I was wondering if it was too hot so I shut the light off but it didn't help. I take the temp with a temp gun. I think the bulb might be a 50watt maybe? I'm not sure but it's low because the light is low. Also @KarrieRee this should answer your questions too. Also I ordered more hides for him.

Please get some digital probe thermometers to get accurate surface basking temps-- and for temps in the tank-- what is the distance from the uvb to the hammock?

Karrieree is our resident lighting expert, work with her and she will help you get it spot on. If it's off even a little it causes all kibds of eatibg behavioral and health issues. Once its all good if you are still seeing problems we can go from there.

Okay thanks. I changed the earlier today and he did seem better. Although that could be a coincidence I don't know.

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
