Hello, my boy here has had one of his eyes become cloudy, he has new day bulb (1 month old), basking spot is 34oc cool end 25oc 4ft x 2ft wooden vivarium with a ceramic bulb also never has issues with eating a varied of veg and a little fruit, gets calcium and the multi vitamins weekly.

I just spent over 400 on my car and the vets refused to give me any help or even let me send pictures and told me to just phone exotic pet shops for advice 🙃

I can take him to the vets after the 25th this month but how can I prevent worsening? I will deep clean his vivarium again with f10 Veterinary disinfectant, put on paper towels and saline bathe his eye but what more can I do?

If your using a "day" bulb it has a coating on it called neoyidium please get rid of it. They cause all kinds of eye issues please get a solid clear white bright basking bulb - examples flukers Exo Terra intense zoo med repti basking bulb or a Arcadia halogen

Its an Arcadia Euro Range T8 Desert 10% bulb for day light I use, is that okay? The basking bulb is a Arcadia Reptile Solar Basking Spot Lamp 50 Watt

Also thankyou for replying I really appreciate any help I can get right now I want to get his eyes better
Ok I thought you had a "day" bulb like this EXO TERRA Daytime Heat Reptile Lamp, 60-w bulb - Chewy.com
the ones your using are fine. I would recommend upgrading your UVB to a Arcadia Pro T 5 w/ a 12 % bulb - or a Zoo Med w/ a Reptisun 10.0 T 5
Usually its the lights that are the culprit for causing these issues so you have good lighting. What is the substrate your using?

Sorry just frantic typing and missed out some info, so I am using a cocofibre and playsand on half for digging then slate on the other side keeps his nails at a good length. I will remove it all though and put paper towel down till eye improves. I can't upgrade lights right now till 25th. Need something to tackle his eye the now, saline bath? Keep his tank more sterile.

Was going to do a cocofibre, playsand and clay mix when he is better?

No on the cocofibre please. I would rinse his eye w/ a saline solution no contact lens stuff please - And I would stick to a non loose substrate like textured NON adhesive shelf liner or a slated ceramic tile something that is not too coarse and something not smooth he needs some traction - but I would get the loose stuff out now and use paper towels - we need to start eliminating cause and since the lights are good its something else

I've always been pro loose for digging etc as I wanted to build a bioactive set up for him but he is now on paper towel and disinfected slate, he is still eating like a terror which is good! I am using my f10 to disinfect absolutely everything, he is about to get a small wipe/bath while I do his eye and then I will let him rest.

I'm mad at myself right now, even did scientific literature research paper on bearded dragons care and common health issues for university now my poor boy is not right and I'm kicking myself. I don't know where I've messed up.

I am going to flag a couple of others on here to see if there is something else I missed

Most dragons on loose substrate will never have a problem but it can happen or it may be something else altogether. How old is he ? Was he squinting a lot or acting like it was irritated before it became milky ? That's usually the first sign when they get something in their eye. You can put some raw unpasteurized honey in it mixed with a tiny bit of lukewarm water.

He is 6 years old as of today! Happy birthday.. :/
His eye appeared a little watery but then it was okay. I do not have access to raw honey plus it is not cheap when I have very little for 10 days still. My issue is money till the 25th then I can go to the vets. I have flushed with sterile saline for just now as I believe it is an infection. He is still acting relatively normal and tanking through his greens and bugs.

When did his eye start to look cloudy like that? Did it come on suddenly? It looks almost like cataracts or something along those lines, but I'd think that would come on slowly. Do you see any mucous buildup, swelling, or other signs of issues around his eye? It's possibly an infection, but that would be best determined by a vet.

noticed it yesterday, my dad was doing his salad and bugs for a couple days (same as what I always give him so no change there, he knows what he is doing when I need to work a lot a few days in a row) , prior to that he was alright. it is a bit watery, his other eye seems a little watery/gooey now still same as yesterday but otherwise there isn't a lot of mucus build-up, no change from yesterday thus far.

I know I need to see a vet but I am stuck till payday due to my car costing a bomb then this coming up. Just trying to see what I can do to help till I can get to the vet.

If it came about that suddenly, then it's probably more likely to be infection or trauma to the eye. I'm not sure if there is a whole lot that you can do at the moment, but I would probably continue rinsing the eye with saline as needed to help keep it clean, but try to minimize disturbing the eye other than that. Try to see if he is having any issues tracking things on either side of his head. I'd imagine his tracking from the cloudy eye would be lessened, but hopefully he can still see well from the other side. If the weather is good, then perhaps some time outside in natural sunlight would be beneficial. I don't think it will have a direct effect, but basking in some good natural sunlight might make him feel a bit better.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
