So. We got a beardie from a coworker - He's 3. Was in a 'good but not great' exoterra setup with coil uvb. Fed mostly lettuces, hornworms, and the little red crunchy kibble (which he does love).
We've had him since March 2022 - the first 2 months he was Piss'N'Vinegar incarnate- full of that Spring Energy. Wallsurfing and bobbing and looking for a lady and wanting to run around constantly.
We started feeding him different greens right off the bat- dandelion greens, collards, squash, occasional bok choy, kale, snap peas, beans, herbs. We had introduced Repashy Beardie Buffet which he was WILD for. He gets live superworms on the weekends (our last beardie became nuts for them, so we are going sparingly with this one). All food dusted with calci+d3 daily.
He's chunked up, and admit that he has had repashy a bit more than his greens. Not obese, but a tummy + solid tail.
For about a month now, his appetite has stalled. Turns his nose up to all but very few nibbles here and there, even when offered a banquet. ("oh today I would like only 5 peas". or, "today i would like 3 slices of repashy"). Still goes nuts for the Weekend Worms, of course.
Now, he still basks (altho maybe a full hour a day of PowerBasking), poops (albeit small amounts, but still include urates), and is active (altho he mostly likes to laze around in his favourite spot on his hammock damn near all day); when we take him out he is alert and curious.
He doesn't seem to have lost weight from his food strike. No black-bearding, no lethargy. Summer is in full bloom here so it's not brumation. No twitching or swelling, or strange spots. No sunken eyes. No overly-smelly or strange-looking poops. No issues with locomotion. Not shedding.
His setup: 17"x20"x45" Vivexotic tank, 14% arcadia t5 (24"; originally had 36" reptisun but was adding incredible amounts of heat to his enclosure- note he was acting this way before this change). Basking spot is 106 directly, hot side 100-93, cool side 85-82 (using both probe thermo and laser gun- varies with our wierdass weather here) Night temp ranges from 77-73.
His past owners said he would 'go thru bouts of not eating or drinking', but I would really like a second opinion on this.
Maybe he's working on his fat stores, and just isn't hungry? Or could he be secretly ill? Or is this...normal for him?
