He is still fighting me hard to get the charcoal and water into his mouth. He won't eat, but i guess that's a good sign that he is still strong and a fighter. Doing what i can to fill his belly with that solution.

If you are using a syringe or eye dropper be careful not to aspirate him. You might could mix it in a little baby food and use a syringe to drop it on his snout. You can pull down his lip and drop a tiny bit outside his gums to get him started lapping at it.

The only issue with charcoal is it for ingestion of poison. It needs to make contact with the toxin to absorb it. Using charcoal orally on a topical poisoning is futile. Charcoal can not help remove toxins from the blood or any other part of the body short of the gi track.

I think the beardie licked the ointment off its tail. I didn't realize there was 2 threads, in the other there are pics. It looks like normal shed not tail rot. But if the beardie did injest it the charcoal might help.

No, its topical. you are correct. Is there anything I can do? Or just wait and hope? Thanks for the info.

I think i missed something, if he didn't lick it off, just wash it off and he will be fine. Ok i went back and reread the original post. I think i did miss read it the first time. Just putting on his tail shouldn't hurt him. I thought he had licked it off.

It really comes down to the pain relief ingredient and concentration and how much he absorbed.

Hello,

Poor guy, it does sound like he has had a reaction to it. How much activated charcoal are you
giving?
I will have to dig out an actual dosing but for now, give just a small pinch of powder mixed with
water & give 1-2 times daily. You can also mix up into a paste or slurry some cilantro, parsley,
mint & oregano to help detoxify his system.
I hope he feels better soon. Be sure to keep him a little warmer overnight to boost his system.
Usually around 75-80F is good.

He is much worse today. Pooping and puking, opening his mouth and shaking his head back and fourth with a very black beard.
I have a vet appointment at 3:45 but he’s not looking good at all.

Oh no , poor guy ! How much of the charcoal did you get in him, please try to be specific. That itself can cause vomiting, even in humans a health professional gives a very small amount at a time to see if there will be any bad reaction. I think your dragon most likely is reacting to the charcoal. Still, if there WAS poisoning from licking the ointment off the tail [ which seems unlikely unless you saw it happen] then the charcoal might be flushing it out but having too much is also a problem.

He did not lick the ointment, it was going on him topically. I was trying to use the recommended doses giving to me on this site for the charcoal. I started with 360 mg diluted in 12oz of water and I was giving him tiny 1ml squeezes into his gums.

It's most likely the charcoal that is somehow making him sick. If you look it up, vomiting and diarrhea can be a side effect in humans so it would also be with animals. Beardies do shake their head from side too side when they vomit so I know that's hard to see. I'm really sorry this happened, hopefully he'll get through it !

What your missing is if there is anything I can do? I truly appreciate the message but can I do anything? Seems like everything I try to do makes him worse.

For now it's just a wait and see unless you could get him in to a reptile vet right away but your appt. is for later in the day. Has he stopped vomiting , will he accept a tiny bit of plain water ? Lets hope he can hang on until the vet visit and when you go, tell him everything that you've tried and everything that has happened.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
