Carbon fibre heat light?

Hello everyone, I’ve seen this new type of heat light for reptiles it’s a carbon fiber heat light, it’s apparently really good for bearded dragons (what the lizard guy told me) but I have seen nothing about them anywhere telling me if there good or bad, I was just wondering if that is because they are a new type of heat light and just wondering if anyone else has seen or knows anything about them because I was thinking about getting one for my beardy and I know it isn’t a light but it’s just to help heat the tank. There is a few pictures on what they look like.
Thanks

The heat emitter might be ok but the infrared one if it does not emit UVA I would say no - we can ask some others on here that would know more

Hi Mia,

Depends what you want to use it for. Typically CHE's are used at night because the provide no light, but can heat the tank up. I assume that's what most people would use these carbon fiber bulbs for.

However, they both produce a small bit of light. They work by heating the carbon fiber to an extremely hot temperature, which causes the carbon fiber to glow. It's not a lot of light like a basking bulb or a light bulb, think of it more like a piece of metal glowing red hot.

Personally, I wouldn't use it in place of a CHE because like I mentioned, the only time I'd use a CHE is when I want NO light.

I would still be using a basking light I just need something to help heat the tank through the day, I have a 150W basking like at the moment but I have had to replace it a lot because it kept blowing out since the basking light was over-working it’s self so I just need something else to help so I can get a lower wattage basking light and a second heat Globe (that would be the carbon fibre bulb if it’s ok) to help so the basking light isn’t overworking and blowing, I hope that made sense I’m not the best at wording things😂
Thanks

If your basking light is blowing out often its ALWAYS the fixture you have it screwed into. I had to learn this the hard way years ago. First you need to ensure the fixture is rated for 150w, most not built for reptile top out at 100 watts. Second if the fixture is plastic it's a no go, they suck so bad, low quality garbage. Always get a reliable ceramic fixture for basking bulbs. As an example I was blowing powersun bulbs ever 10 days to 2 weeks, a month if I got lucky. I was using domes bought from home depot. Once I replaced the fixtures with ceramic fixtures rated at 200w I've yet to blow a bulb. Got 2 150w basking bulbs in my tegu enclosure that have been running strong for 2 years. If you still need supplemental heat after that just go with a tried and true ceramic heat emitter on a thermostat, you can't just throw a CHE or carbon bulb in there and let it run, it will get WAY to hot.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
