Not eating, suspected MBD, low mobility, what should I do?

Aw, poor Joey. It's sad when they can't tell us what exactly hurts or if they feel very nauseated, etc.
Unfortunately Baytril can cause upset stomach so that might be why he's stressed even more now. Is he still wheezing ? He may still rally a little, you're taking such good care of him and giving him the best chance.

Hi AHBD, sorry for my late reply, the baytril was ages ago, like many months ago now. He doesn't breathe properly, I'm not sure what it is, he has trouble breathing all the time, seemingly - he gasps a bit after I syringe feed him, but if I don't, he will starve

These animals are such troopers, there's no way to know the exact causes of his condition and it takes a while to get this way. Thankfully he's not deformed but there's definitely been lack of uvb so it's very good getting him outside for a while in the sun when you can. He's not thin so he can refuse food now without it causing a big problem. Keep offering slow moving insects that might get his attention. A crippled locust [ sorry that you'll have to pull the back legs off to disable it ] silkworm or hornworm. Keep up the good work, I know he's already a special boy to you !

Thank you, I've booked him in on the 27th May to see an exotics vet, I found one about 2 hours from me who really sounds concerned for his general quality of life, I will continue to do what I can for Joey in the meantime, and will update this board with the outcome of the vet appointment.

How is your boy doing, does he still have a black beard? I hope the vet appointment goes
well, bless him. Have you been keeping him a bit warmer overnight, to help boost his system
right now since he isn't feeling 100%?
I agree, it's hard to know exactly what is going on internally. As AHBD suggested, taking him
outdoors is so good for him.

Hi, he has almost all the time, he is kept about 26-28 degrees Celsius overnight due to the heat from the CHE on my snake's viv underneath him
He gets outdoors time everyday atm if it's sunny and warm out

The vet diagnosed as a result of previous poor care he was suffering from kidney failure, muscular dystrophy and metabolic bone disease, he was also lame neurologically resulting in a lack of awareness which was contributing to his overall discomfort.

I am so sorry to hear about Joey -- you did your best and I am sure he was in better spirits w/ your care you were giving him -- it is so sad to hear about neglect and care people give to these poor animals giving them no chance for survival - again I am so sorry
