Swollen arm

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help, noticed my beardie’s arm is swollen and he is moving around but doesn’t seem too confident on that leg and has been flicking it? He lets me pick him up and doesn’t seem stressed but it looks huge compared to his other legs? If anyone has any advice that’ll be amazing I’ll attach pictures of both legs so you can see the difference but it’s swollen around his elbow area

Yes I’m in the UK, they’re the exact bulbs I have at the moment, I got the reflector the bulb is fairly new I got it in February, it’s located only half across the tank so it’s 4ft long tank.. the height it about 21 inches but he has pieces of wood he can climb to get closer, he’s been really active but that’ll be down to the painkillers, just want to find other solutions, is the black cherry worth trying?

Yes but Tracie drache613 needs to help w/that-- get your uvb straightened out this is extremely important for him - you want that distance for that bulb I posted 12-15 inches directly above him

Hi there! This looks like his arm could have been popped out of its socket or there's possibly just irritation to the muscle and tissue. Either way, he/she will be fine just keep a close eye and if you arent that confident about his recovery I would recommend going to a vet that specializes in reptiles!

He’s been moving round on it and climbing on it, he doesn’t seem bothered by it at all he’s just being his usual self! He’s been at the exotics vets anyway it’s where I’ve been taking him, he has a follow up app next Thursday but I can’t bring my self to get him put to sleep if there’s other solutions I love him too much! He’s my little buddy

If he doesn't seem bothered by it in any way why is there any talk of putting him to sleep? What meds has he been on? Have they said anything about an infection?

When googling it all it says it that it can’t be cured and it’s only matter of time of being put to sleep, and the vet suggested it too if he can’t recover from it He’s on Tramadol, Marbocyl, Fortekor and Allopurinol. Alls they’ve said it’s just build up of fluid that they tried to drain but the fluid is too thick, so after the 2 day of fluids he’s just meds to see if improvement but his arm just isn’t improving at all

I completely understand. I have a beardie of my own and his name is Finn. I have become emotionally attached and I couldn't bring myself to ever let him go but there will be a day I will have to. Just know that you need to do whats best for your animal even if it hurts. There are lots of other animals out there needing love and care but if your beardie isn't showing any signs of pain or distress I would let him continue to live his life. Now if he starts limping on it or not using it or being more lazy than normal I would definitely consider getting him looked at by another vet just to get another opinion. I understand this is a long and difficult process but you are taking care of your baby and he may need to rest now. It's a very hard thing to do and I am so sorry but it may be time and it will have to be accepted. Do what you can to help the little guy! Hope all gets better.

Bearded dragons aren't supposed to have a daily soak. It does something to the vent. You may heard that they can drink through their scales but that's a myth. It can cause problems if you soak them daily. Usually you do it once a week or two unless your beardie walks into their poop and you have to clean them up

Oh really? That’s what the exotics vet told me that they have vents they can absorb water through? I spray his fruit and veg to make sure he has some water intake anyway

actually that is incorrect information. bathing does nothing to the vent.

but absorbing water through the vent is another myth. the problem with bathing too frequently is it is not good for their skin. the only way they get hydration from bathing is if they drink the bath water.

That's what it was! I couldn't remember cuz I have a very bad memory and for some reason I said vent.
