Hello Everyone! I have been watching this website for quiet some time and finally decided it was time to join!
I will attach photos of setup as well as my baby Valkyrie.
I adopted Valkyrie on 2/25/22 from petco due to her being returned to them because of feeding and feces issues. I got her home and she was eattting great but I noticed her poop was not normal looking at all. Solid bugs, extremely watery ect. I am a vet tech at my local clinic but unfortunately we do not see reptiles but I was able to run a fecal from my place. She was loaded with pin worms and a few other worms that I was not familiar with. I called the nearest reptile hospital and they got her in that day.
Dr said her exam was normal and she prescribed the following. While there they recommended testing for ADV, which I agreed to. Later that week I got the news that she was positive. Vet explained all about the virus and we will treat as or if symptoms occur.
Tribrissen 48mg 0.07ml every 24 hours for 2 days, then every 48 hours for 21 days, then recheck fecal (in the process of results)
Liquid panacur 0.05ml every 14 days for 4 doses.
I have been doing all these faithfully and her feces has greatly improved. Her appetite is amazing.
10 days later, I am back at the vet because I noticed her limping. My cat jumped on her tank breaking her screen. When I found her she was ok, looked a bit shakin up but nothing out of the ordinary until I seen her walk.
Vet noticed her limb was swollen and wanted to do xrays. I agreed and thankfully nothing was broken. She prescribed meloxicam 1.5mg 0.01ml every 24 hours for 3 days for inflammation. This issue occurred 3/10/22.
As of today Valkyrie is great....No limp but besides having a puffy front right wrist and back right wrist/toe.
I have been researching all over and I'm leaning towards gout. I have access to 300mg allopurinol but want to make sure I dose her properly. Any help is much appreciated!
Her diet
If anything is off please let me know!
She is around 6 mos...est
She loves dubia roaches (around 15 daily medium)
Crickets (10 -15 medium daily)
Bsfl(10 every other day, she is not big on them)
Blue worms ( one medium once a week, not big on these either)
Wax worms ( 5 once a week, her favorite)
All the greens she could eat. She loves her veggies!!
Collard greens
Butternut squash
Mustard greens
Escarole
Parsley
Turnips
Her enclosure
Her basking side (which she hardly leaves) is always between 90°/95°
Cold side is 75°/80°
At night lights go off and we have a non heating ceramic light that keeps the temp right at 70°
Her humidity is always between 25%-30%
Tank size is 40gal.
I think I got everything! Please let me know if I didn't. Thanks in advance

Great set up and your doing great only one suggestion please change the repti zoo bulb out for a reptisun 10.0 T 5 or a Arcadia 12% bulb those are really good bulbs and the screen is a wide holed so it can stay on top please put a piece of basking decor directly under the uvb 8-10 inches - I am going to have Tracie look at your post she is a vet tech and currently doing research on adv

Thank you so much! I will get on that asap. Im so confused weather the swelling is a symptom of the adv or gout. She is not big on silkworms but will eat a few. I hear they are great to help with that.

Yes and cherry juice as well - I want Tracie to help w/ the adv stuff as well as the gout- a blood test would need to be done to test for uric acid levels for the gout - the uvb is going to help w/ the swelling as well

Yes! I started cherry juice with her 2 days ago. She does seem to be more mobile. She likes to snuggle with me on the couch but now when she has enough, she will start walking away to her cage lol.

Hello,

Your girl is beautiful, what a lucky girl she is!
Your lighting looks good. The 40 gallon tank size is fine right now, no problem at all.
As Karrie suggested, upgrading your UVB lighting would be good, the Arcadia 12% T5 or
Reptisun 10 T5 tube either one. Which long tube are you using now?
Is she still on the medications?
Adeno usually does not cause the swelling & puffiness or at least not any case I've ever
seen or dealt with. It likely is pre-gout or some other type of absorption issues. Gout is
fairly common especially when poor care has been prominent.
Which supplementation are you giving?
The diet variety is excellent, that is terrific. Hopefully she stays with eating greens & the
vegetation.
Since you have access to Allopurinol, personally i would recommend getting her started
on it. Even if she doesn't have visceral gout it wont hurt her but if her uric acid levels are
elevated it will help with excretion of excess uric acid. You could be proactive & start her
on black or tart cherry juice extract to help out her kidneys.

Thank you so much!
So the long tube is the reptizoo t5 lighting. I will be going to pick up the new bulb and basking platform today.
The meds she is on as of now are
Panacur 0.05ml every 14 days. She had her dose yesterday
Tribrissen is done
Meloxicam 0.01ml as needed but I haven't seen a difference in anything with this.
Supplements are
Flukers repta boost 3cc once a day (started yesterday)
Repti calcium without d3 every day on bugs
Rep cal with d3 once a week.
Electrolyte bath once a week
Bee pollen every other day
Tart cherry extract 1200mg once a day as a slurry
I do not do any veggie supplements because she eats them well. If she's having a off day on veggies I will add repashy superveggie
She weighs 136 grams and I have 300mg allopurinol available.
Let me know if I missed anything and thamk you all so much for helping!

Please keep both and please make sure your placement and distance is correct for the T 5-- if you need help please ask I would increase basking temps to 95-100 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer-

Hello,

You are welcome!
Yes, do keep both lights because the long T5 tube bulb doesn't emit enough heat for basking,
only UVB. She definitely needs the heat for basking!
I'm glad she is done with the Tribressen then. Continue with the supplementation schedule &
only giving D3 just one time weekly. Does she like the black cherry juice also?
If you decide to start the allopurinol, let me know.

She does like the cherry juice! I have been doing about 1ml once a day. Should I be doing more? She has been on it since Tuesday. She really enjoys the flukers boost. I got her some slate rocks yesterday and made a basking platform for her in replace of that stump. She instantly ran over to it and plopped down. My poor girl.. I didn't realize that stump wasn't a proper basking spot. I feel awful. I also replaced the lighting to a t5 10. I went ahead and replaced her other bulbs just incase. I should be getting in that allopurinol hopefully by then end of this week. I do want to start it as soon as it comes in. Again thank you so much for your help and advice!

Hello,

Great, the basking temperatures of 98 is fine, no problem.
As far as the amount of cherry juice, 1ml daily should be fine. That is great she seems to like
the juice.
Oh so she prefers the rocks to bask on instead of the wood stump? Perhaps it just gets warmer
for her than the wood? A lot of dragons love wood. I guess she is more comfortable!
Wow she should perk up really well with the new T5 tube you got her. Did you get the Reptisun 10
or the Arcadia D3 12%?
Sure, just let me know when you get the Allopurinol in.

The stump was apparently just a snake hide 🤦‍♀️ It was made of some hard plastic. She loved it but has definitely chosen the slate over it now. I got the reptisun 10.

Is the Reptisun 10 a T 5 or a T 8 ? These bulbs require certain distance and placement - please look on the bulb toward the bottom of the bulb and it will say

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
