Hello, I recently received a bearded dragon (my guess is she’s 4-6 months old?) she is a rescue. My neighbors asked if we wanted her.. we said yes.. when we got her she was in a 10 gallon tank and UVB light was burned out. She was severely malnourished and dehydrated. She was flat and sunken in and did nothing but sleep and was certainly headed for death. We are new to dragons but we knew something wasn’t right. I immediately began to research how to care for her. I’ve spent a small fortune on a 67 gallon 36x24x18 terrarium tube UVB lighting with a T5 10.0 bulb. A 75 watt basking light, calcium supplement, crickets, greens, etc. I am still in need of an accurate thermometer (please recommend a good brand/type) and my CHE warming bulb has not arrived yet. I will also be mounting the UVB inside the tank as soon as I ge the material to do so. What is the best way?

Now that set up and husbandry is much better we are hoping she will be given the opportunity to thrive. Based on what I’ve read and what I’m seeing from her, it seems she has severe MBD or she has been paralyzed or fractured at some point. She is very shaky and can barely walk. Her spine is crunched up and crooked. She does not like to move around much. She is trying but it seems to take alot out of her. She can eat well and was very hungry the first week we got her. She can catch crickets surprisingly well especially if they come near her. She does eat greens. I’m dusting all her food a couple times a week. I give her water throughout the week from a dropper. She is pooping fine. I do believe Adenovirus is a possibility also but I really am not sure. I’ve spoken with a few vets and some suspect MBD based on what I tell them. Can MBD happen within a few months? I’m just surprised with her being so young at what bad shape she is in. I would post a video of her walking but I do not want to upset anyone! It is hard to watch.

She is doing better. We are seeing slow improvements after just about 2 and a half weeks of having her. She is much more alert. She moves on her own a bit. She can hold her head up better but she never pushes herself up in her legs. She is always laying down. She has very very poor mobility.

Has anyone seen a young beardie improve from MBD over time? Have you seen it reverse. I know she is happier now but I hope she is not in pain and I would love to see her live a normal life. Regardless I will give her the best life possible. She has stolen our hearts and captivated us! Any advice or success stories are much appreciated. Thanks for reading the long post! Pics of our baby Sahara and her setup- first picture are when we first got her then her setup now, and most recent pictures of her.

It is good you have rescued her she is young so she has a chance- you have a good uvb I would recommend getting a piece of decor directly underneath approx 8-10 for now-- I can help getting it in the tank or you can take your screen off place the uvb width wise distance 12-15 inches - I am going to ahbd address some of the other questions you have-- a Zoo Med digital probe thermometer are what most people use and you should get this as soon as you can - surface basking temps and UVB are extremely important

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
