Hello All,
Brand new to this forum…we got our son a bearded dragon for Christmas. He/she (not sure yet) is probably about 5 months old. Things have been going great with him! He eats crickets 3 times a day and greens once. He has been active and sweet and we have really enjoyed him! We have a log/branch on the right side of the tank under his basking light (which had been his favorite spot) then a hide that he can climb on or hide under in the middle of the tank under the UV light and his food dish (for greens he doesn’t eat hand fed) and water dish on the “cool side”. My son wanted to put some decorations in the tank so we set up a little grass hammock in the middle of the tank near the UV light. The bearded dragon (named Pretzel) immediately showed interest in the hammock and climbed up it. He stayed there all night! Then this morning he didn’t want to come down. I took him down to eat and he climbed up to his basking spot for a little afterward but then immediately climbed back up the hammock under the UV light. He’s dark and seems cold, but won’t leave that spot at the top, closest to the light. Do you think he is confused and doesn’t remember where his basking light is? I’m so baffled by this behavior. He seemed cozy up there and slept there all night but after he eats I thought they need to get warm to poop. He has habitually pooped every morning after feeding him (and sometimes again in the afternoon) every day since we have had him (dec 4). Today no poop and this odd behavior. Should we take the hammock out? I should also mention that he is shedding on his head and arms and legs. His body sheds separately…also is that normal? I’m sorry to send so many questions in at once. My main concern at the moment is this hammock sitting behavior under the UV light bc I worry he’s cold and hasn’t pooped. Thank you to any and all who respond. What a gift to be a part of a community like this!
