Sad news about Daisy

Hi everyone,
I'm writing this with a heavy heart. Daisy isn't doing to good. I took her to the vet today and they did more x-ray's and him discs in him spine aren't in the right place which he said could be causing the problems with his mobility and causing him not to use the bathroom which makes her not want to eat. He sent us home with four medications, one being a laxative, two pain medications, and one antibiotic to treat her respiratory infection. He also gave Daisy fluid to help get all the stool and gas build up out. He has completely given up trying to walk due to the pain he has when he does. The only option after that if he doesn't get better will be euthanasia. I really hope the medications work or at least give him some relief. My heart is broken and I haven't stopped crying since the vet.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear this ! How old is Daisy, how long has she had this problem walking and the R.I. and when was the last time she poo'd ? I'm thinking there's another thread about her ? EDIT **** I saw your original thread. When did the problems start ? Once again I see a pet store selling a baby beardie with inadequate lighting and a tank that is too tall for the dragon because many times a baby has not been in a large tank and does not know to climb up high to access the uvb and heat. Still, there may be hope for her, please answer all the Q's and post new pics of her + her set up. Also, what 2 pain meds. is she on , that can make a beardie sick. To help her poo, natural laxatives that taste good can be used like baby food squash or canned pumpkin [ no spices ] as well as a bit of raw honey.

He hasn’t used the bathroom since Friday. I would say he’s around 10-11 months. His symptoms started on Saturday for the RI. But before that he could barely walk just slid everywhere, and now with his spine messed up he completely stopped trying to move. On Saturday I noticed he kept opening and closing his mouth more than he usually does but then I heard this popping noise he kept making after he closed his mouth. On Saturday he didn’t eat and then on Sunday when he opened his mouth I put a dubia roach in there and he ate it. I’m taking him back to the vet next Tuesday to do a check up. Just really worried about him not using the bathroom or eating.

The vet gave me meloxicam and gabapentin for pain. Lactulose is the stool softener and then SMZ is for the RI. I will try the natural laxatives but I’m not sure he will eat it but I could put it in a syringe like I do with water. I’m still working on trying to figure out how to get the uvb inside her tank but I do take her outside to get her some natural sunlight. Building a 75 gallon tank but it’s taking some time to complete. His problems started late September/ early October.
( not sure if it’s a boy or a girl, the vet looked and said it’s probably a boy because it looked like there was two hemipenals but they said it was hard to see due to the fact that he was small. I tried to look when I first got him but I couldn’t tell.)

Wow, he grew a lot since June, looks so big and healthy but I know that's not the case. Can you please post the xray's of his spine ? BTW, that is not unusual in the least for him not to poo for 5 days or more, many sub adult + adult dragons to go for that long or much longer. I would offer the natural laxatives if you could but if you use the Lactulose but don't worry if he does not go any time soon. Beardies can have partial paralysis but not be in any pain at all, or not much. Be careful about using the pain meds, look up the side effects on the 2 you have for Daisy. So is your uvb a 10.0 t5 ? And how many watts is the heat bulb ? If you put Daisy in water , supported by your hand of course, will he move his legs at all or if you put him on a carpeted floor and give him a boost will he move?

I forgot to ask for them to email the X-rays to me!! I will call them tomorrow and post them as soon as I get them. He said the pain medication might make her sleepy but I will do more research on the side effects. Yes it is a 10.0 t5 tube and a 100 watt basking bulb. Before all this she would try to swim and walk around, but now she stands there and looks like she doesn’t enjoy it at all anymore. I do take her out and she used to take off and explore around my room, but then when she started to have problems walking she still would try and walk a little bit and her front legs would get stuck under her and I would fix them and try to get her to walk but she would just lay down. She would walk a little then start leaning and sometimes fall over but now she just lays when I take her out so I cuddle her in her favorite blanket and she sleeps while I watch TV. On my recent posts I uploaded videos of her walking.

I'm SO sorry to hear that Daisy isn't doing well! I've been following all your updates, and hoping for improvements! I wonder why the original set of X-rays didn't show disk issues in the spine. I hope that one of the suggestions that AHBD has provided helps a bit.

Yes I saw that the vet said in Oct. that the xrays did not show any problem. I saw that the uvb was maybe not in the right position which may or may not have contributed to his condition. Still, it's too soon to say that nothing can be done but I definitely would not use so many pain meds. He might just need a lot of good uvb exposure . Don't give up yet, there may be some progress that can be made. If it's warm where you live, take him out in the sun to sit on your lap for a half hour or more if possible. Vet visits are stressful and they can't do anything right now so I'd skip those for a while to see if uvb might help now. He's in no danger from slight constipation and will eventually go.

Thank you so much! That's what I was wondering why it wouldn't show on the first x-ray. The x-ray's showed alot of poop and gases in her stomach and her lower spine vertebrates look like they are all together like 3-4 of them.

You're welcome. I know that everyone reading this is really pulling for Daisy, and for you. Offer a little baby food squash, canned pumkin [ no spices ] mixed with applesauce or raw honey. Then later in the day a warmer than usual bath, that usually helps them poo.

Hello,

Sorry to hear Daisy is still having trouble!
I agree to trying to take him outside, if you can for some extra UVB light. Definitely don't give up
yet, they can come through some unbelievable things so you just never know how well he could
recover. Pain meds should really only be given short term because they are hard on their organs.
Did he give him a liquid calcium to help with his bones in his spine? Keep us posted on his progress.
