Prolapse?

Postby Leeduh » Sat Mar 28, 2009 5:02 pm

[TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY]

So i have a FEMALE...

and i thought this to be prolapse... BUT it looks NOTHING like anything ive seen on the sites....

Image

I cant afford to take her to the ER vet.. or any vet right now.... what can i do for her at HOME?

She is drinking her water, she munched down a worm... and i have everything else in tehre for her to eat lettuce, bananas, grapes, and her water... plus the worms...

Image

those are the bedding stuck to her, i had her laying on a paper towel but she moved around to drink her water..
It looks like poop, but it's not.... i can see two little slits in it , as if its where she goes to the bathroom and lays eggs?

She has been digging for days, and i watched this happen.... she was wiggling as if she was gonna lay eggs and this popped out instead....

I really don't know what to do, and i dont want her to die.. She has lost weight.... her eyes look sunken in... and i dont want her to be in pain...

The pet store said to clean it and try to push it in, i did so, and she pushed it back out because it is faily large?

Please helpp.. pleaseee

emanuelieta@yahoo.com

EDIIIIIT

I have been giving her regular baths she had two tonight, i will try the sugar one tomorrow....
i put Vaseline on it....lots of it... and i also put a towel on top of her bedding.... and squirt it down... i am trying what i can at home because i cant take her to the vet right now, and it will be at least 3 weeks before i can afford it.... She was swimming around in the water, getting mad at me :) And she is moving around in her cage like she normally would... she is drinking water and did eat one or two worms tonight..... they are in a bowl in her cage hopefully shell eat the rest tonight.... i can never tell if shes eating her veggies.... :?

THE WORST THING YOU COULD DO IS PUSH IT IN!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you said you cant afford to go to a vet but it is the only health option for her. Most vets will be willing to setup a payment plan. Call a herp vet asap.
Did you breed her? (as you said you thought she was laying)
If so and she was preparing to lay she could not only have the prolapse but could also be eggbound which could spell certain death for her. a vet is your only option im sorry.

by the way pushing it in can and normally does cause severe damage to the internals.

I asked them about payment plans, and they told me no... that payment must be in full at discharge... :(

No never tried to breed her... never wanted to....

I dont know what to do...

If this is going to be really painful am i better off taking her and getting her put to sleep? The er told me it could cost up to 2k.... And right now i dont even have 10$.... And i cant find the 120 to borrow off anyone.... thats how much it cost JUST to walk in the er with her.

so dont go to the er. find a vet in your area (by in your area that can mean a few hours away if need be) that will do a payment plan and help you with your dragon. where are you from 2000 dollars sounds ludicrous. best way to keep her comfortable for now is bathe her a good bit (this will help was off all of the crap that is on it) and keep the prolapse hydrated (or else it can get ganegreen and fall off). The on monday start looking for a vet that you can take her to that will work with you.

The er vet told me it could cost up to 2k..... I live in Philly... and have a fair amount of animals, and NONE of them ever offered me a payment plan... My MIL recently had a cat in one and they made her pay before the cat got to leave.... I'm going to call one of the places on Monday..... i think there is two places around me that treats reptiles.... for now i am just bathing her and putting Vaseline on it.. also put a towel down in the cage so the bedding doesnt get on her.... i sprayed the towel too.... and will again in the am....

she is acting fairly normal for this being the 3rd day... i am just praying that it goes back to normal itself... but i wont be able to take her to a vet that wont give me a payment plan for about 3 weeekkkkks.... so im gonna try the sugar bath tomorrow..

by crap i meant it as a general term for the stuff that is caked on her.
the sugar bath is used to shrink it down but you will want to make sure that you DONT TRY TO PUSH IT IN that has to be done by a vet. you could hurt her extremely bad if you shove it in.

just in case you didnt know the full process with the sugar solution

go with 1 tablespoon per 3 ounces of water if you prefer to measure. Using a syringe (needleless) irrigate the area repeatedly over. The sugar will draw fluids from the cloaca, allowing the animal to withdraw the organ. You can assist with a Vaseline-coated cotton swab.
If this does not help within 24 hours, your pet should be taken to a veterinarian (a follow-up visit is a good idea even if you are successful).

Hello,

Please soak her for at least 20 minutes in the sugar water to allow the sugar to absorb into the tissue. This is a very serious prolapse. I hate to say but most of the time with these types of prolapses unfortunately, if they are not treated, the dragon will not make it. The tissue will become necrotic & infected. It appears to be a rectal prolapse, or possibly an intestinal prolapse due to the size of it.
Do you think that she was trying to lay?
Was she having a hard time laying then?
How often does she get calcium? Do you have UVB light?

Leeduh, you can try to offer some stage one baby foods like squash with maybe a drop or two of olive oil, to make things softer and easier to pass. I think that is right, Drache ? Anyone else, Family ?

Hello,

That is correct. You can do babyfood, with a drop or two of olive oil. Avoid fruits since they can cause too loose of stools & irritate the GI tract & lining which she doesn't need right now.
I really need to know the type & brand of UVB light you are using because there are some that are not very good. I ask because they prolapse only for a few reasons. The usual reasons are hypocalcemia, egg stasis, malnutrition which is or caused by low calcium, poor UVB exposure, poor muscle tone, dehydration. All of these reasons are common causes of prolapse. When they do not have adequate UVB lighting, over time, they cannot properly absorb calcium as well as other minerals & vitamins. Namely, when females try to lay & they are calcium deficient this is often the main cause of prolapse.
The only other problem would be an irregularly shaped egg that is blocking passageway for her to lay successfully. In this case, it is a major emergency as she will bleed internally from tearing that could occur from pushing so hard repeatedly. Obviously, if she is still trying to push with no success, then something is critically wrong. This is a problem that most likely can't be solved with herbal remedies unfortunately.
Try to get food & fluids into her. Also, mix up some calcium & vitamins with the food as well.

Ummmm.... the long one is a repto glo 10.0 and im not sure what the other two are in there, or what the black light is.... they are too hot to move... The guy at the pet store gave me everything, and he is the one who takes care of the lizards at that store... I didnt pick anything out myself....

She never really ever ate veggies.... when i put them in there shell eat about one or two pieces of the lettuce... i never kept a water bowl in there, because she would never drink it... but since this has happened and i put it in there she has been drinking a lot.. could she have been dehydrated? Like i stated before her eyes were sunken in, and they are no longer like that.... My fiance applied for care credit but i wont know until tomorrow what the outcome is....

If the doesnt work out i also applied at one of those grant places.... and i have 4 number sitting in front of me to call tomorrow to see if they will do payment arrangements with me...

I am really doing all that i can.... She is acting normal.... She is moving around like she normally would, besides having this get stuck on things in her cage, so i took out one of the logs.... there are only two in there now... i have cleaned it twice today and put lubey stuff on it... i guess so far so good.... being day 4.. how long until this type of thing can take her life?
