Is this slight underbite MBD? I'm scared ....

[TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY]

I just noticed over the past couple of days that Kenshin has developed a very slight under bite. He has an MVB (T-Rex) bulb with two basking spots within 12" (he uses them both) and his viv has a good temp gradient. He eats superworms, dubia roaches, and mustard greens (mostly). He's about 5 months and 20" long. He seems really healthy, he's growing well and shedding and eating and everything. I give him rep-cal Calcium with D3 and without (alternating) because I've heard so many conflicting reports on whether you need D3 with a MVB and I figured better safe than sorry. He also gets Herptevite.

I thought I was taking proper care of him (He's my only pet so he gets more attention then he may like) but when I noticed that he seems to be getting an underbite and I remembered that that's a sign of MBD I kind of freaked out.

Here's a picture of him about a month ago and today:

Is it possible the MVB bulb isn't getting enought UV to him? Would it be ok to add another UV bulb? (There's a florescent fixture in there too)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm so worried.

Hello,

Oh yeah that is a slight underbite. The T-rex is fine.
I believe he has probably not been getting enough calcium or absorbing enough of it. Solely because he grew so quickly his body used it up too fast. This is a fairly common occurrence.
You could probably correct it with some liquid calcium, but you will need to get it started now & it should correct itself as he is still growing. He does not need D3 with the mercury vapor bulb, just the calcium.
You can get the liquid calcium from Veronica at the beautiful dragons site.

Thanks for the fast reply!

I just called my local reptile store and they have liquid calcium. I'm going to go buy some asap and get him loaded up.

He definitely has been growing quickly so I hope that's the cause. I'd hate to think I'd done something to make him less healthy.

thank you again!

Hello,

Great that you are getting some liquid calcium for him. It is not your fault, it happens fairly often. He probably is just not quite getting enough calcium for his body size & weight. The liquid calcium should reverse it pretty quickly. He is still growing so it should correct itself since you are catching it now.
Let me know if you need help dosing it once you get the liquid calcium.
