Hi, looking for some advice, Rango is 8 and has been healthy all his days (he has had some eye issues in the past due to dodgy UV) but now his back legs have started to go and he’s sliding around the viv. He’s only really himself when he’s in the bath which he still loves and is himself for maybe 30 minutes after coming out then seems tired. He’s totally lost his appetite and only ate some worms the last 2/3 weeks and completely shunned his greens. He was at the vet last week (not a reptile specialist but where I am in Scotland there’s nothing else nearby) who recommended euthanising but I feel he still shows some glimpses of life! The vet made him up a mixture of painkillers and nutrients which I’ve gave him the last week but it just seemed to make him more tired.
I know he’s getting on a bit but any advice or help would be great! I’ve started to give him some baby food through a syringe coupled with calcium liquid a few times daily and he’s grudgingly accepting it but how long should I let this continue? Is he likely to get the legs working again and get energy back this way?

His setup is ~40 gallon viv, 100w basking lamp (temps around 100-105 daily) and an exo Terra 150 UVB light (15w). I’ll post some pictures. Any help or recommendations would be great!

The Exo Terra is a coil or tube? This I am afraid may be the problem--- please specify so I can advise as to what to get --- I am thinking this is a tube and if it is I want you to swap that out for either a Reptisun or a Arcadia 12% Desert bulb -- or Euro bulb I think they call it over there -- its a T 5 and I am thinking it should go into the fixture your using if its a tube like I think it is -- where is the Exo Terra now in the tank ? top of screen or inside the tank?

Thanks for the reply!

It’s a tube but he’s been on those bulbs all his life apart from 1 month with a cheaper alternative as they were out of stock!

Unfortunately he’s prolapsed today after my first message fairly badly so I think it may be time and he’s had a good time for 8 years, doesn’t make it any easier though ☹️

Oh my goodness ---- you can soak him in some sugar water and that will make the prolapse retract back in --- the bulb you using is considered a T 8 not a T 5 like I thought -- where in the tank is it ? Those need to be inside the tank approx 6-8 inches directly above the basking decor piece and changed out every 6 months
here is a link for prolapse from this forum

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
