he doesn’t do this normally, but it has happened before. for the last few days, hes been glass surfing starting a couple hours after he wakes up. i take him out and clean his tank and i let him roam around for like 30-45 minutes until it seems like he’s tired himself out but when i put him back in 20 minutes later he’s glass surfing again. do i need to just take him out got longer? i’ve kept him out for up to an hour but he keeps doing it. no other problems. he’s eating normally and i believe his lights are at the right temp. he’s an adult in a 55 gallon tank. is his enclosure just too small?

Start w/ the lighting please--- basking temps and how are you taking them? NO stick ons --- UVB NO coils--- brand and bulb where in the tank is it? top of screen or inside the tank? We can go from there--- its a process of elimination

i’m unable to take the temperature rn. my mom has one of those digital thermometer guns that looks something like this (https://www.amazon.com/Infrared-Thermometer-Non-Contact-Pyrometer-Temperature/dp/B08DHG2NNN/ref=asc_df_B08DHG2NNN/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459772503038&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7141846402313685962&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9009649&hvtargid=pla-945330596308&psc=1)
i’m sorry i’m not sure how to embed pictures.

i had no idea that coil lights weren’t safe! i’ve been using this one (https://www.petsmart.com/reptile/environmental-control-and-lighting/bulbs-and-lamps/thrive-desert-uvb-bulb-55895.html)
for a while now and i’ve never had issues? other than the occasional glass surfing, but he usually stops after a week or two. we also took him to the vet for unrelated issues not too long ago and they didn’t find any health issues at all. but i will be getting a new one asap. this was advertised as a bulb for a bearded dragon and i sincerely did not know i shouldn’t have been using it.
this is other other light i’ve been using (https://www.chewy.com/zoo-med-repti-basking-reptile-spot/dp/126603?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=Zoo%20Med&utm_term=&gclid=CjwKCAiAqJn9BRB0EiwAJ1SztdHhnPL5S3QKT4mKoe0XPLZLs9ysEmHxeN3uDHFHFKnVHXZSRasCpxoC_K4QAvD_BwE)
his lights are on the top of a screen

The basking bulb is fine as long as your temps are 95-110 for a juvie / adult dragon -- the UVB needs to be replaced ASAP- those bulbs are inadequate--- you need this https://www.reptilesupplyco.com/wholesale-reptile-hoods-domes-fixtures/1884-reptisun-terrarium-hood-t5-24-zoo-med.html
https://www.reptilesupplyco.com/t5-uvb-bulbs/1878-reptisun-100-uvb-t5-ho-fluorescent-bulb-22-zoo-med.html
This fixture comes w/ a 5.0 hang onto it-- it can be used as a back up -- its considered a T 8 and distance and placement would be different--- you can use the 5.0 for the 50 gallon tank but it would need to go into the tank directly above the basking decor approx 6-8 inches --- then replace it in 6 months w/ the 10.0 bulb--
I would get this ordered or look at your pet stores and get it replaced your dragon is not really getting any UVB from that 13 watt you have ---

My pets have me trained to the point where I can’t keep Mari’s door closed or she will freak out. It has to stay open at all times (I keep my bedroom door closed at all times and make sure nothing is on the floor for her that shouldn’t be there) or else she will start surfing like crazy. She’s so spoiled I can’t believe I let her get away with it ? my room is set up to mimic an enclosure, though, and I’m considering making another basking setup because she likes to hang out in different corners of my room and in the wild they’d have access to the sun while doing this. They probably want variation, idk. You should probably not do what I’m doing because what I’m doing is letting her control me. ? I do this for my cockatiel, too - she can fly anywhere in my house and she has perching spots set up throughout for her to chill out. They aren’t in the same room, though, so no one is at risk of predation or attacks.

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
