Hello all! My Name is Kyle and i Just got my beardie today! his/her Name is Toothless. I Want to be sure i'm giving it the best care possible and the best environment to thrive in. I've heard that the Reptisun 10.0 is the best UVB bulb to go with. My habitat has a mesh wire top, and I'm wondering if this would be okay to set on top of the tank? will it affect the UVB? if not, What's the best way to mount it inside the tank? right now i'm just using cheap bulbs from a starter kit and I want to get the new bulbs ASAP. What does everyone suggest for a basking bulb for a Juvenile Beardie?

Also, I have a sand mat in for my substrate? will this be okay? should i put down newspaper or something for a potty spot?

Final question. for today i fed him Crickets, but i'm going back to my store tomorrow for better food for him, what should i be getting? what greens, fruits and bugs are best?

sorry for the long post, I'm very new to this and i want to be sure my baby is getting the best care i can provide. :D

What size tank is your baby in? If its a 40 gallon tank I recommend this
https://www.pangeareptile.com/store/zoo-med-reptisun-t5-ho-terrarium-hood.html 22" --
If your screen is a fine screen like a screen door its going to need to go inside the tank approx 12-15 inches directly above the basking decor piece if its a wide holed screen like dime size it can go on top w/ basking decor directly underneath approx 8-10 inches --
Here is a website for nutrition ignore the kale thing its a good staple feeder http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
Your gonna want a bowl like this to feed insects / worms in https://www.amazon.com/MACGOAL-Reptile-Ceramic-Leopard-Bearded/dp/B084VJJWTV?pf_rd_r=R0HNPKXJ2ZARWAT5MPAH&pf_rd_p=c5b6893a-24f2-4a59-9d4b-aff5065c90ec&pd_rd_r=0173f98f-f39b-4d44-9f76-6ae4d88c419b&pd_rd_w=AuGQB&pd_rd_wg=tLkwE&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_d
Pet shops are not the best place to get food for your dragon and it is spendy
Here are some websites to get worms/ insects for your baby I recommend dubia roaches they are a better staple feeder and they need to be dusted 5 x per week w/ calcium D3 one time per feeding and vitamins w/ beta carotene 2 x per week one time per feeding
Your dragon needs salads offered every morning I suggest you get some small super worms use 1-3 on top of the salads to lure her to the bowl - also you can use some butter worms 1-3 and silk worms they are another good staple feeder as well but I would recommend getting her some BSFL they are great for babies and you can use as many as you want do not dust them they are calcium enriched order large they are small -- you can get all these from the one website they are spendy on shipping but worth it in the long run- http://www.mulberryfarms.com
you can get dubia roaches from here they last longer easier to keep in a 10 gallon tank feed them dubia food along w/ carrots and squash for hydration http://www.dubiaroaches.com more websites you can look are http://www.reptilianarts.com good silk worms you can order by the cup they come w/ food the bulk like 50 come small but you need to order food and clean containers out daily -
http://www.symptonbsf.com great place for BSFL
You need to be taking basking temps w/ a digital probe thermometer NO stick ons they are inaccurate and you want basking temps 105-110 for your baby-- if your dragon is around 6 months old temps should be 95-110---check out the links I posted for your UVB please ask questions if you have them

The sand mat is fine you might want to look into getting some NON adhesive shelf liner-- w/ a little but of texture- it's going to be less expensive in the long run -- clean w/ vinegar and water 50/50 solution

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
