Come on down to Devlyn Town everyone, let's go!

Welcome to Devlyn Town everyone! We're a welcoming place.

Devlyn joined our household on February 9th, 2019 at 6 months old. I don't know her birthday, and she wouldn't tell me, so my best guess is August 1st, 2018.

Devlyn was bought from a pet shop that went out of business. Came from an unnamed wholesale vender. The original owner did a lot to take care of Devlyn. A baby dragon who had parasites and a respiratory infection from the pet store. There were some hiccups with coil UVB bulbs but that was corrected after a vet visit in October 2018 to UVB fluorescent tubing and proper heat control and a bigger enclosure. The original owner sold Devlyn to me because Devlyn is a very picky eater (aka non-eater)(and as of 2/09/2020 Devlyn still can be a picky eater, she needs a lot of care to eat well) and the lady's life was very busy with other pets, kids, and a failed marriage. Devlyn went from whatever shadey pet place she was born, to a cheap pet store, to a loving first owner who only gave her up so Devlyn could get more attention and care and the cost of her ongoing care. My husband and I have given her a good home now! This is Devlyn town, she is the mayor, we do her bidding.

See pic above for her enclosure she has had since late 2018. About 45" by 17" by 19.2". New bulbs added after the move FYI. Devlyn likes color so I am currently going insane by creating more furniture, buying decorations and making decorative elements for her. Stay tuned for more episodes of Devlyn town!

Devlyn is much more confident outside now

Look at those pose on a stick. Proud dragon

I'm sure it's very individual on if a dragon can handle all the stimulating outside world

Getting things going outside for a dragon sized walk through edible garden. Because Devlyn likes her outside time. I also got some Jenny Jump Ups which were already flowering. Will leave them outside to get rained on a few weeks to wash away any concerning things put on the plants. Dandelion already grows a little big in my yard, Devlyn ate a flower a few days ago
103228-6704846434.jpg
We're back on the Panacur for 2 more days still. She is acting pretty good but having trouble pooping. Yesterday I saw her try to poop and she only got the urate out. Still cleaning her enclosure out. Will get a repeat fecal in another week or two.

Devlyn ate a blueberry, then another, then that was it. I've been trying to convince this girl blueberries are tasty and dragons love them. Lately she has been accepting of new foods.

She has also been getting a flower or a few every day. Only dandelions and violets are up right now. She needs to poop so I can get a check that her parasite load is out. The cleaning has been intense.

Hope she's much better now, glad she's trying new things. ?
Something I've found with Petey, he's more accepting in trying new berries or grapes if I cut them in half or quarters. I'm guessing it doesn't have much taste or smell when whole. He wouldn't eat grape after tasting the skin but when I cut it in quarters and offered a piece he ate a couple. Now I will cut 2-3 into quarters to put on top of his salad and he'll eat them all. Same with blueberries. Just throwing it out there.?
Will try more rose petals with Petey, he didn't care for the red ones but have a couple others. He ate half a dandelion flower but wouldn't eat more. Eats the dandelion leaves/greens though. ?
Hope it's warm enough for her to enjoy some outside time now. ?
Stay healthy.

Way too long since a Devlyn update!

The world has been sucking so I took an internet break. It was good while it lasted but I think I can handle the internet again

Devlyn has been wonderful since I last posted. We did do some more medicine and that cleared up those pinworms again and she has stayed clean of reinfection. Yay!

Lately she has been eating SO MANY MORE FOODS

Now Devlyn regularly will eat just about any vegetables or fruits I offer her. She has eaten blueberries, strawberries, cucumber, carrots, squash, and sweet potato. She has gotten rose petals, violets, dandelion flowers, Johnny Jump Ups, spider plant flowers, apple tree flowers, and clover leaves and flowers. It's like she finally gets it. Food is amazing and I offer her good stuff. Right now she is getting about 7 bugs per week, sometimes less. It's been cockroaches or superworms and sometimes hornworms.

Devlyn got to meet my parents for a social distancing Father's day. She loved my parents grass. She walked around and rubbed into the grass, reminded me of a dog rolling around in grass sans the full rollover. She never acted like that for grass in my yard! Little weird dragon girl.
103228-2942739907.jpg
Devlyn has gotten to do lots of outdoor fun. She is getting more outside the enclosure time in the past. Since it's sunny, and especially when there is real sun involved it seems still safe for her to get enough UVB. She even ate a wild ant one time.

Not impressed by toad...
103228-3126208754.jpg
Smart girl Devlyn buried herself in leftover fall leaves. She was very proud of her camouflage!

I dug out some nusance bushes. They were too close to the house and just really placed in the wrong spot. Devlyn very much has been enjoying the dug up bushes. Taking out the bushes gave me more space to plant a garden with some good edible stuffs for Devlyn. It should be even better next year once things spread and fill in.

Devlyn is also still a super fun dragon. Living her best life being a weirdo beardo
103228-9427749891.jpg
Weighing about 420 grams. She gained weight after the parasites were cleared but has been holding steady at that. Small but normal.

Yes, she slept like that ^

And let's end on a close up of Devlyn's cryptic scale coloring. I love those patterns and colors

Oh my gosh, thanks for the update! My wife and I have missed Devlyn! :D The world is definitely crazy, glad you were able to see your folks safely. We did a similar "across the fence" get together with my parents when the came up for Easter. Nice for them to at least see their grandkids from our driveway!

Devlyn is gorgeous! Loving those salad pictures; she's definitely a spoiled "weirdo beardo!" (Totally stealing that phrase, btw. It's so good!) 8)

It's wonderful that you're able to have her roaming outside so much. In all your stories and pictures Devlyn is the star, and it seems she knows it!

Thanks MariosDad and everyone who checks in on Devlyn's story. She is the star! I do my best to help her feel comfortable and confident. Best guess for hatch date is August 1st so is getting close to 2 years old. She seems much more settled this year than last year. She has to know she is a full grown girl and things are as good as it gets.

Poop. Have to talk about poop. Devlyn rarely ever poops in her enclosure now. She waits until sometime when she is out of her house. Always a clean pooper she will either have a poop while running outside or 2 spots in the house she has repeatedly pooped at. She also poops in the bath which she didn't do even once for (maybe) the first 6 months I had her. She doesn't get baths often, every 2 weeks or so, but now she poops after a 10-15 minute soak.

More close up pics! Top of her head for the parietal eye and back scales

Devlyn has a lovely clover garden with some Johnny Jump Ups. Hopefully strawberries will be on it next year. Violets and nasturtiums are in it too to the far far right out of frame. She tried to climb the house so I think she needs some branches and logs to climb on.

Adding some big landscape stones would be fun. The previous homeowner used many softball to football sized river rock to border decorate the gardens. I know that's a style (but I hate that type of border like something written from Dante's Inferno!!!) however the weeds love the rock borders so it's a pain and I refuse to use chemicals in my yard. So many baby toads and frogs are in my yard! Local herps matter.

I think I'll take the border rocks and make a small rock mountain or something. I'll try to find some boulder rocks on the cheap. Got one and Devlyn has fun climbing it (I don't have a picture! Ahhh, I'm sorry). So a few more outdoor climbing opportunities would be awesome. I'd also love a a small water feature which maybe Devlyn would drink or swim in? Probably just poop in it...we know the truth.

My weirdo beardo day and night. Devlyn is too fun. Sleepy time pic!

A few days ago I finally set up the kiddos swimming pool for Devlyn

We had it last year but I was worried if she was too young for that amount of water. She seems to enjoy being wet for about 10-15 minutes or longer. Then she is done and gets out of water.

The good news she seemed to be swimming. Not the full swim a reptile can do but she was truly moving around the water

A few days later rain added to the pool. Devlyn had also really started shedding. It was amazing to see her use the water. She had always dunked and moved getting shed off in water but it was much more impressive in a deeper larger pool

She needed help getting out...she will climb over or swim under the stick but never tried to use it to get out. Maybe a net on one side dipping into the water would work with her brain

Here we go. Clockwise. Moving closer to water from stick, dunking head, then scratching that shed off

You can see she is cleaver and keeps that tail touching the stick

Very smart at being a bearded dragon which is all that matters

Oh

ohhh

well

So I was eating dinner with my husband while holding precious dragon shed scales. Then, in a moment of supreme generosity and kindness, I put a piece of shed skin on my husband's arm. He felt something on his arm so he put it in his mouth. He realized something was wrong as he started to chew

I maintain I am innocent of any crime. He should have looked!

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
