Hello all! New to the community, but I've had my (assumed female) beardie Agaya since January 12th, 2020! Her name means "Our baby" in Korean. When I got her she was underweight, filthy, dehydrated, and completely depleted of energy being kept in a 10 gallon at ~10 inches long with only a coil UVB bulb. A family associate took her in in this condition after someone bought her for their 8 year old who was too afraid of her spikes to handle her. However, they soon had to move out of state and I took her in. She was living in her own filth in that 10 gallon and had extremely watery feces only being fed lettuce and crickets. This poor lil baby was entirely unsocialized and would hiss when people passed by her tank and would lunge if you tried to touch her.

Now though... I am happy to say that she is very calm and easy to handle, is parasite free, has a 40 gallon tank all to herself, a turtle and blue plushy whale she loves to cuddle with, a heat lamp and gets daily natural sunlight for 15-60 minutes a day under the northern California sun. Agaya gets monthly baths and all the love in the world. My lawn is infested with clover which she loves to graze on every day when I put her outside in her wooden bottomless box with a wire top. She is potty trained to only go when she goes in that box on the lawn and hasnt gone in her enclosure for over 2 months now, but goes every single day in her box. ^^ She loves to listen to us talking and will never give up trying to catch her neighbor betta fish named Ewazi. She is on a diet of self raised and bred silkworms, collard greens (as a staple), carrots, cabbage, and various other beardie approved foods such as butternut squash, etc. I love her to death and she is my darling. Never thought I would own a beardie, but she's got me hooked. Currently working on turning her enclosure bioactive and I will update when I can! Pictures are before and after I took her in and I hope you can see the difference. ^^ Currently still working on putting weight on her and giving her wax worms as well, but she is not 15 inches long and has already gone through 2 full sheds.

Open to any suggestions and tips you all have for me. Thank you!

What a story! So glad you got her- the outside time is great- you are using a UVB as well in the tank? And hopefully not a coil-- I would lay off the cabbage tho if your feeding as a staple-- there is a website for nutrition on the feeding board-- ignore the kale thing it's a good staple feeder--- keep us posted on her progress- I am sure she's a lot happier now :)

Hello! And no she doesn't have any UVB in her tank at all since she gets natural sunlight for long periods of time daily and faithfully. ^^ I spoke to her vet when I took her in for an exam when I first got her, and she said this would be okay. And the cabbage is not a staple for her, just an occasional treat. Her staple veggie is collard greens that I've been growing at home organic just for her. I mix it with butternut squash and carrots for variety, with blueberries and other fruits and berries as occasional treats.

Wow, it sounds like your girl lucked out after having to live in those terrible conditions previously - she deserves to have it all, good for you for giving it to her!

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
