I took my 8 year old female bearded dragon (Norbie) in today after noticing a large prolapse this morning (1” of red tissue from her vent). She was normal, active, and eating her Dubias yesterday.
After searching all morning an exotic vet at a university exotic specialist clinic was able to see her.
They gave her anesthesia, put everything back inside of her, and gave her stitches to prevent another prolapse. They said it looked like possible reproductive tissue and not urinary or digestive tissue. It has been 5 hours since I brought her home and she is still asleep from sedation. I keep checking her breathing but she won’t open her eyes.
She will need X-rays and stool samples this week as well and I am worried about cost. I lost my job due to covid and her exam/ treatment today was $565 even though they quoted me $350. Does this seem normal? I’d do anything for her though even if it means going into debt. I love Norbie so much. Hoping so much she pulls through tonight and wakes up tomorrow.
