A bearded dragon from Santa Claus: CandyCane passed away :(

Like the title says, I'm looking into and thoroughly researching bearded dragons to see if one would be a good fit for my family. My son has been telling me for weeks that Santa is probably bringing him a snake or a lizard and I should prepare myself, so that's what I'm doing. I have 8 year old twins, and a bearded dragon would be their one big gift from Santa Claus. They would not be the primary caretakers for obvious reasons, so I'm also researching what level of care they need, etc. I've learned they need quite a bit when they're younger, and I'm also trying to figure out if this is financially feasible for my family as well. I'm posting mainly because I have a question about habitat. I've been looking at different potential terrariums and I found one called the zen habitat. It's 4 feet long by 2 feet wide, so plenty of room. I'm just wondering if any bearded dragon owners on here have any first hand experience with these enclosures? Also, hoping to find a good breeder in Louisiana that will have some fun morphs, hopefully the bright yellow colors. I wouldn't mind having one shipped, but it would be easiest for us to pick up on Christmas Eve from someone local if that's at all possible. I have a veterinarian (for my dog) that also sees bearded dragons so that's in order. Anyway, just saying hello and introducing myself because I'll probably have lots of questions lol. Thanks!

So it is time to upgrade some things in the beardie enclosures now. The branches are a little too flimsy for them and their hiding logs are a little bit too much of a tight fit now. So I got them some handmade tents from Etsy and I got them each a bamboo bridge that I'll hang from the top of the enclosure. I'll still keep the branches and such for fun jumping spots but they need to be more secured and I can't do that where they currently rest.
The tents:

The bridges:

Each one is customized for my kids. Green and pink for Marilou, yellow and green for Silas.

I love the tent idea... might need to get one for Figment! Been wanting to change things up for Fig's hab, too, so I'm keeping an eye out for rocks and branches on our family walks, but no joy so far... rocks too big and heavy for a glass tank, everything too narrow in terms of branches. Ah well. Love your updates... I'm living vicariously through your decorating!

Lol, they need more things in their enclosures. They look a bit sparse atm. And Wilbur seems to have taken to his half log hide but he's too big for it already so tent it is! I think I'm going to turn their half log into some kind of planter for them. Turn it on its side, screw it into the cork, then add some desert plants for them. And they love climbing on the cork background so a bridge and more things to climb will keep them entertained.

CandyCane discovered her bed today and stayed there a good long while. I also noticed when they were on the floor that they're about 12-14 inches long based on the size of the 12"x12" tiles that are on the floor of the enclosure. They hatched November 3rd iirc, which makes them about 3.5 months old. Isn't 12-14 inches rather large for a 3.5 month old?

Omg my beardie has that same bed, but in pink ?

She loves it! Every afternoon she eats her snack and settles down in her bed in the shade lol.

Lots of pictures coming up! I didn't realize it had been that long since I'd updated. Still haven't gotten their tents in, but their bridges did arrive we just haven't set it up yet. Since I know where they like to hang out now I'm trying to configure (in my head) how everything will go. Waiting on the tents mostly and I plan on getting them a rough flat stone to put their food bowls on so they file their nails like Karrie suggested. Anyway, peep their sizes now! They're so big! And still shedding like crazy. Seems as soon as their body sheds their legs are ready and once their legs shed their body gets ready to shed and the cycle repeats.

CandyCane. This is her half pig / half dragon picture.

She climbed down real fast.

She's developing more and more of these "freckles." They're neon orange almost. Shes got two on her arm now, a few on her head, and one on her back. Usually about the size of one or two scales. Any idea what they are? Or are they just something that all dragons have but her being patternless you just notice?

Here's a good picture to kind of show off her colors and scales!

And now for Wilbur. He's been so calm and letting us hold him a lot.

They are getting so big--- how old are they?
Karrie
They hatched I believe November 3rd or around there so they made 6 months last week. Their hatch dates were there when they were purchased and I want to say that’s when it was.

Wow!! They are bigger than my little Blaze and he will be 11 months this weekend--- but I keep forgetting he was the runt of the hatch so that could be why --- I am going to weigh him and measure him this weekend and see where we are for weight and his length ---

I keep thinking, ok we're about to slow down on growth lol but I look at pictures from last month and they're bigger than they were and they just keep shedding. I think after this next shed they'll probably slow down a bit. Wilbur's front legs are about to shed and CandyCane's legs and tail just shed but she doesn't look like her abdomen will be shedding any time soon but who knows!

Holy bigness!
CandyCane looks incredible, and Wilbur’s pose on that branch is hilarious! ?
Mario is going through his first shed and it is crazy looking! I’ll post pics on his page.
How long have they been in “constant” shed? Does it seem to bother them or have they got used to it?

Since we got them. They came in under shed or having just shed, and have continued to shed. Their shedding has slowed down and by that I mean they get the milky appearance but it takes longer to actually shed than it used to, so they aren't actually shedding as often but they are...in shed? If that makes sense. CandyCane shed her body a few weeks ago, and then her legs went right back into shed. Her front legs have since shed but her back legs are still milky. Wilbur's front legs had shed before he shed his body, but before he shed his body his front legs were milky again and are getting ready to shed again soon.

Thanks! They are some healthy chonks! Wilbur is bigger than CandyCane for the first time too. But he’s been eating like crazy. Her appetite seems to have slowed down (barely) and he just keeps eating. He knows breakfast time too bc he comes down from his hammock or branch and watches me through the glass waiting for me to put his bowl in lol. Sometimes he tries to get my fingers. CandyCane too. My hands get attacked by tongues a lot.

Lol! Petey got me yesterday. He didn't want to give my finger back! Petey! Let go! ?
Accidental. He dropped his fruit I was feeding and snapped onto my finger trying to catch it. ?
Didn't break the skin, surprisingly. ?

CandyCane is good about avoiding fingers. Wilbur just chomps down and keeps going until he gets to his bug or lettuce. We only use tongs with him now lol.

In other news, Wilbur seems to be on a hunger strike? He doesn’t have the appetite he usually has. He will eat a few bugs throughout the day, and almost finished his salad today, but seemed to only want the salad on the cool side of the enclosure? I gave him some fresh greens and he came right to them this evening too. Yesterday was the same, but not as much salad. Any ideas on what’s going on? He’s not lethargic, but I’m wondering if their appetites are starting to slow down as they aren’t pooping as often now either. Every other day it seems.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
