Good morning everyone,

This group has been very helpful and I really appreciate all of the input I have received.

I recently was given my friend's adult bearded dragon (18 months) as he has not been home enough to care for him properly. I want to make sure I am feeding my adult bearded dragon appropriately and I am looking for advice.

What does a typical week look like when it comes to diet, and what sort of vitamins/calcium/etc are you giving, and when?

Also looking for recommendations on worms (wax/horn/silk/etc) because I read so many different opinions on what types you should feed, and which ones you shouldn't.

Thanks so much guys!

At 18 months he should be eating salads every day here is a website for nutrition
http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html you can feed the kale so ignore what it says on the website
Insects 2-3 times per week - dusted w/ calcium D3 and vitamins - alternating between them - if your dragon is eating a good diet of greens its not crucial but if you have a picky finicky eater I would suggest you supplement them -- I recommend dubia roaches - they are more nutritious - here are some websites you can check out for worms / insects etc.......
BSFL -- great staple feeder and you do not need to dust https://symtonbsf.com/
Butter worms-- dubias roaches-- horn worms-- super worms -- meal worms www.dubiaroaches.com --https://reptilesupply.com/
https://reptilianarts.com/ great place for silk worms- they too are a staple feeder

You can shop these websites for insects/ worms --- some others can add places they get theirs from as well -- silk worms are hard to find now - not sure what is going on - I ordered smalls from coastal and are waiting for them to get bigger - so if you do that make sure you order chow so you can feed them -- the horn worms grow fast and they are a hydrating worm so order small amounts -

Thanks for the reply Karrie - I am in Canada so unfortunately, dubia roaches are technically not legal here :(
I was looking into silkworms or Phoenix worms to add to his diet. Any tips on keeping and feeding those types of worms?

I forgot to add - when I feed the worms, what is a ballpark number I should be offering?

Hi there, Bowser is a good looking dragon , very pretty leatherback. :) He looks to be in good shape, proper weight visually, not fat and not too thin. Definitely focus on greens like turnip, mustard, collard, kale, dandelion, arugula, as well as green beans + squash. Here is the website for the Worm Lady that Karrie mentioned :

In regards to feeding crickets, how many should I be offering him. He doesn't like eating out of a dish and loves to chase them. Any rough numbers to consider?

He's eating large crickets I take it? They are not as filling as dubias so I really never fed them to mine--- I started off w/ crickets- but switched over to dubias so going by rule of thumb feed him as many as he will eat in a 10 minute time frame-- 2-3 times per week and feed him his salad and worms first- that will help w/ the amount he will eat

Can anyone provide advice on the calcium powder and multivitamin? How often a week should you be giving them? Cheers

Just wondering cause you seem knowledge..the sights that I'm reading for calcium say 3 times a week and vitamins once a week and I've been seeing things that if you dust your salad the bearide is more likely not to eat it (and I've already been having troubles getting mine to eat his) but if you're only feeding crickets 2 times a week what are you supposed to do? (And if I dust his salad and he doesn't touch it what then?)
Sorry to come on this thread with more questions! I posted one but haven't gotten any comments

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
