Has anyone done a enclosure that's half bioactive and half slate or ceramic tile ??
It's been discussed, but I can't cite any threads off the top of my head.Wickedpogana":22jofwt9 said:Has anyone done a enclosure that's half bioactive and half slate or ceramic tile ??
Just looks it's a t8 thank u for the heads up will change dammit lolclaudiusx":3nvhhfqu said:Your tank looks really nice. I like what you did with decorating it.
I don't see anything to improve upon besides just making sure you are providing proper UV. Do you have a t8 or a t5 bulb? The T5's are better suited to being mounted over the screen like how you have yours.

The t8 is still a good bulb, it just needs to be a bit closer than the t5 to achieve the same desired UV levels.Wickedpogana":2dkrzxpe said:Just looks it's a t8 thank u for the heads up will change dammit lolclaudiusx":2dkrzxpe said:Your tank looks really nice. The t8 reptisun ideally should be about 8 inches from the basking surface unobstructed. So if it's on the mesh it really should be more like 6 inches away. That's why typically t8's get mounted inside the tank to be at the proper distance.
The t5 is much stronger, it needs to be 12-15 inches away unobstructed. If it's on the mesh though, it needs to be around 8. (mesh obviously cuts down on some of the UV )

The 12 inches he isnt really at hes more closer usually like on the mushroom ledge on the tile side on the glass and I'm not sure how I could mount the light inside the carolina cageclaudiusx":35iydj1o said:Which spot does he typically bask at? The 12 inch distance or the 4 inch distance?
If the 12 is his normal basking spot, I'd opt for the t5 as 12 is the perfect distance for it when ontop of the screen. However if you get the t5, i'd make it so that he can't get that 4 inches away from it. It's a powerful bulb and even on the mesh, you don't really want him to be able to get that close to it.
Could you mount the t8 inside the tank? You'd probably need to move the hammock.
Since you just got it, you might want to make it for for 4 more months and then when it comes time to replace (at 6 months) just switch to the T5. You will need a new fixture for the t5 bulb though. So it's really your decision on what you want to do.
