[TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY] I went to pick up crix from Pet Smart earlier since I've gotten multiple DOAs in a row ordering online (Im pretty sure its mishandling during shipping, new area ) and I saw someone picking out a bearded dragon. Decided to mention this site as a great source and a worker overheard me, agreed, and mentioned heavily using the forums here The lil guy seemed a bit young to be sold but the setup was decent and he was being fed crix + greens... I guess not all stores are nightmares for them.

Hello, That's great you sent people over to our forum here. We can help new owners out! Some of the Petsmarts do have bearded dragons but most of the time they are sold way too young. Tracie

I commonly see bearded dragons there, that's not the problem. A lot of pet stores dont care for them properly, either due to lack of knowledge or company policy.
The nice thing about this interaction was seeing a dragon properly cared for in a pet store with an employee that actually frequently uses this forums, so odds are (hopefully) that they know what should be going on which gives me hope that they werent feeding incorrect info to the new owners. That worry is why I stopped for a second to let them know about these forums. Worker ended up agreeing with me on coming here, new owners said they were definitely going to check it out.
The only notable mistake I noticed was using those dial thermometers for heat/humidity.

I tell people about this forum at every petstore I frequent.
The wonderful world of bearded dragons is a magical land of mystery, enchantment, cuddles, love and, worry! A mysterious realm where things always seem to change in an instant and, the moment you think you have it all figured out, the rules change! You think you own your dragon, guess again. You are now a slave!!! RIP Peaches 10-1-18 Forever in my Heart

Update: disappointingly found out that they advise its safe to house beardies in pairs I dont know if this is something that all pet stores claim but I was informed the worker I initially spoke with was a "beardy specialist" and is hard on the store about proper care akin to the dragons they have at their own home.

They do it to sell a product. They play on people's emotions.
