Hi All
I am looking for a little bit of help.
I have a bearded dragon, she Oasis is just 1 yr old. A couple of months ago I noticed that her appetite had changed she wasnt eating like she used to and hadn't pooped in a few days.I thought maybe she was goin into brumation as it was turning to winter over here in the UK. I kept a close eye on her for the next few days giving her baths to try and encourage her to poop. Then I noticed she wasnt walking properly so I decided to take her to an exotic pet vet. He weighed her, she weighed 328grms and gave her an xray, he said it was most probably a sprain as the xray didnt show any broken bones but she was a little impacted he had given her an enema to try clear it. He gave me some pain medication for her arm and told me to bath her twice a day to help her empty herself out which I did. It is about 5 weeks since then and I'm still really worried she hasn't eaten at all now for about a week, although her weight is stable now and hasnt changed for a few weeks she did lose weight because she is only 307grms now. She isn't as active compared to how she used to be, but she does move around her tank to different basking spots etc but spends alot of time on the cool side of her tank compared to before. I think from what I have read etc that she may have internal parasites I have read that (Panacur)
Is used for this, is that correct?. I cant really afford to take her back to the exotic vet until the end of the month but I dont want to leave her as she just isn't herself.

The weight loss combined with lethargic behavior is a bit concerning. Is she still not walking properly? Can you give me some details about your setup and lighting? What kind of UVB light are you using? What are the surface temperatures around the tank? Perhaps something is off with the lighting that is causing an issue.

You can upload photos of her and her enclosure here https://www.beardeddragon.org/useruploads/ and post them to your thread using the XIMG button when you reply.

Hi there,

Geeze I really wish vets would stop giving enemas unless absolutely necessary. Enemas alone have killed more than their fair share of dragons when they weren't even necessary to begin with. Thank God that it's been awhile now since it was done.

So many vets are so quick to treatment that they do things to healthy brumating dragons that causes them to get sick, or worse.

Your dragon most likely was just slowing down for brumation. They don't have to go through a full blown brumation.
Of course she would have lost weight after getting an enema. But the fact that her weight has been stable for weeks now shows most likely that she is just fine.

What did the vet prescribe and at what dose?

How was she walking that was weird?

Just realize, that if she wasn't eating, she isn't going to poop. It's that simple. You can't expel what you don't put in. And a few days without poo'ing is nothing. dragons can easily go weeks without pooing when they start to slow down.

Can you go over your setup with us so we can verify there are no husbandry issues at play?

If she hasn't lost weight, then shes doing just fine without eating, and her body has likely slowed down because she is trying to brumate. It's only when they start to lose weight that brumation becomes a concern.

Sorry here are the answers to the other questions.
She was walking with like a hobble like she couldn't
put weight on her front left leg properly. He prescribed her loxicom 0.04ml 1ce a day for 10 days.

Hi Guys
So I have moved her baking spot slightly so she is exactly 12inch away from the uvb bulb it was previously 14 inches away. I read on another post on here that with my bulb 12inch should provided the right about of uvb in their baking spot. Any thoughts/ ideas on what could be wrong or what else I can do to help her.

Weight loss could be due to parasites or pre-brumation appetite as mentioned. I wonder if your vet would consider charging just for a fecal exam since you've already paid for a full-price visit without positive results. It's worth asking and ruling that in/out IMO.

Yes I have considered that but she isn't eating at the mo so she isn't pooping for me to get a sample to take for the vet to check sadly.

How is she doing today? Any weight loss?

Really like I said in my first post, it could just be brumation.

How is her leg doing now? Any improvement? Could you post a picture of it so we can see if there is any swelling?

Moving the t5 to be 12-15 inches away from the basking spot is good. That should provide her with the proper uv exposure.

Hi
Not good at all, when I got back from work today she was on her back, I picked her up straight away she was breathing but very faintly.
I held her for a little bit and then put her on her leg on her baking spot.
She is moving a little bit now, but I'm not sure what's going on I really thought she was dying ?. I have tried upload a picture for you to see through the ximg on this page, but it has the 2 previous pictures that on put on here before there and doesn't give the option to upload more.

Oh no that is really unfortunate. being on their backs is never a good sign.

I think at this point she really is having some issues. It's hard to know for sure but we've seen it more than a few times where a dragon gets given an unnecessary enema and ends up in some very dire situations because of it.

Is she black bearding at all?

I think at this point it will be worthwhile to force feed her with a slurry, organic baby food, or a critical care formula such as herbivore care if you can pick some up.

I'm so sorry you two are having to go through this.
Forgive me of I asked already (on mobile) but did the vet end up doing any bloodwork? That would be helpful if so.

I'm going to ask another member to come and give some thoughts and advice for you too.

At the top of the site there is the user image uploader. I dont think you can see it on mobile. But you can upload there and then it will pop up in your ximg.

Since she is black bearding that is a serious indication that she is in distress. Was she black bearding before you went to the vet for the first time?

Unfortunately with these recent developments it's really necessary to have her be seen by a competent reptile vet. Do you have a different vet that is near you that could see you today?

I'm sorry but I wouldn't trust your current vet. And I'm thinking you might want to stop the loxicom too, it can be a bit taxing on the system, but I'd wait for someone else to come and back me up on that before deciding.

I didnt even know he was going to give her 1, he said he was gonna take her for an xray. When he came back he said that her leg wasn't broken just sprained but she was a little impacted so he had give her an enema. To be honest I didnt even know you could do that to them until that point so I have a little surprised. I have already stopped giving her the medication, and yea from all the reading I have been doing it doesn't look good at all. I am gutted there is only 2 specialist vets anywhere near me, I have called but have no appointments left for today I really dont think she is going to make it through the wkend.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
