Using T8...should I upgrade to T5?

My son has a baby beardie (about 9 weeks old). He is housed in a 40 gallon breeder. Currently, we are using a 24" Reptisun 10 t8 bulb in one of my djay black light fixtures (has a reflector). The bulb is approximately 8 inches from the surface of his basking spot. Depending where he lays, it can stretch out to about 10 inches. Would I still benefit from upgrading to the t5 bulb? If so, do I need to move it a little farther away? I do have a bulb and fixture on order from lllreptile if I choose to change.

Your current setup is just fine then :)

You really wont get much of a benefit from the stronger bulb as your distances are good right now. The t8s do perfectly fine in the 40g tanks under the mesh. In larger tanks or setups where you need to mount ontop of mesh, the t5s come in handy.

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
