Hello,

Wow, what planet did you visit the vet on? LOL
That is so nice & very empathetic & caring of her. At least she isn't seeing anything
obviously wrong with his eye. Has it improved at all?
So you will be taking him into a specialist per say soon? That is very generous of him to
accommodate you & Anachronos like that. I am glad to hear that the mouth area is getting
better now. I hope the eye will continue to improve, especially while he is slowing down
some.
Overall, not too bad on the news though. Thanks for the updates!

Yeah, I was surprised to say the least.

I haven't been able to check on him too much this week since he's in full rest mode and brumating in his box, but I suppose if everything holds that means his mouth with have plent of time to just heal on its own. Now while I wait to sort out an appointment, I can focus on fretting about the female, who has been losing a noticeable amount of weight for her brumation and refuses to peck at things for even a bite to regain any of it.

I love these lizards, but I swear they're trying to fray my nerves some days.

Hello,

OH it is always something with them right? LOL
They do heal up slowly but maybe his mouth will heal up while he is slown down.
How long has your female been losing weight? You may need to bring her out of brumation
& get some food into her so you can get a fecal done on her. How much weight has she lost?

Anachronos had his hidey-hole upgraded from a too-small archway (he's a big boy) to an actual box which he loves, so I haven't been able to check his mouth much but the time I did it looks much better, so I guess he is healing it on his own? His eye just recently shed, too (just his eye), and he's trying to use it but it still isn't tracking much.

Unfortunately we stopped weighing them regularly for most of this year so I don't know just how much weight Aurene has lost, but her tail has visibly shrunk and her skin is sagging. It's VERY noticeable to me when I pick her up to examine her; she's half the weight of Anachronos, and getting close to half the weight she was when she started. She won't eat voluntarily, but she will drink, and she poops her white residue portion. She's been brumating for close to three months; how do I "bring her out" of brumation manually?

And I just came home from work and noticed Aurene is bleeding from her mouth with an almost dime-sized puddle on her floor. It looks like she did some kind of damage to her gums, will post a photo later, but I have just enough time to write this message while I wait for my ride to take her to Animal Emergency.

Hello,

Oh poor Aurene, how terrible! Were you able to get her to the vet? How did she hurt
her mouth? Let us know how she is doing!
So Anachronos is doing pretty well? That is good to hear his mouth is looking better now
while he is brumating. They do have the tendency to heal up when resting. At least his eye
is shedding also.
To bring her out of brumation, you can just slowly increase her light schedule & heating again
for her. Definitely encourage her to bask & offer fluids daily. Hopefully soon, she will be
interested in food.

I had an update planned to give you.

But about half an hour ago, Aurene walked weakly over to the corner of her cage and had a spasm, then began gasping for each breath. She died on my hand as I tried to give her a little relief as she breathed. Her appointment was tomorrow morning at 10:00am.

I'm so sad and pissed off right now I would scream if I could stop crying.

Hello,

Oh no, I am so sorry that you lost Aurene so suddenly, that is terrible!
It is so hard to see when they are gravely ill. I am so glad that she wasn't alone & was
with you.
Our thoughts are with you.
How is Anachronos doing today?

Sorry, this has been one of the most awful weeks of my life. Between Aurene's heartbreaking passing and my father being rushed to the emergency room, the usual stresses have been overwhelming.

That's where the only actual good news comes in: Anachronos is "fine."

That is to say, the vet(s) could not find anything wrong with his retina, nor could they find any growth or cysts that would cause a problem in his vision; he seems to just be mildly irritated and has some lessening of vision (not unlike myself) that he will probably have to just endure. He doesn't appear to know the difference, and while he can't hunt out of that side of his eye he does see light and darkness.

As for the lump, apparently it's just scar tissue. It is most likely a foreign object that got stuck there and the tissue grew over it, or less likely it could in fact be a bug-inflicted injury, but it is slowly receding and of no cause for concern. It may disappear entirely eventually, or it may settle but it doesn't impede his eating and he doesn't even react to it being manipulated so it doesn't cause him pain. Because of that the vet suggested against a biopsy as it would put him under duress without good reason.

All this time and he was fine, while Aurene had a lethal condition we didn't see. The necropsy showed that she died of fatty liver disease. Since Anachronos is also overweight, I need to get him exercising so we can reduce the likelihood of him developing it as well. Beyond that, however, he seems to be generally well.

Thanks for all your help

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
