Sorry I'm late but look up BioDude on YouTube. He makes a premixed substrate called Terra Sahara that does not need a drainage layer.

Hiya,

Generally, yes, however Bearded Dragon Bio-actives are a fairly new thing (at least from my experience) and the only highly recommended one I know of is from The BioDude and does NOT need a drainage layer.
