Hi, apologies in advance if this post is any wrong areas or a repeat, I’ve never posted on a website like this, just read the stuff.

Small backstory: my beardie is ~6.5 inches, and I’ve had him for a couple weeks. He’s my first one.

Last night while my beardie was sleeping I heard noise from the cage that sounded like him freaking out so I checked on him and he was sleeping in his house. I didn’t think anything of it and went back to sleep. This morning when his lights turned on I noticed he didn’t come out to go sit on his hammock/log like usual, so I checked on him and opened the house. His tail was ‘kinked’ under the house and he was just laying there. I immediately grabbed him carefully to check it out and took pics (I’ll try to attach...) my first reaction was ‘run to the vet!’ However after a quick google search, I’ve seen that the tail will just fall off and to put neosporin (with no pain relief, correct?) then if it progresses to see the vet.. would that be correct or is this more severe? My immediate concern is because of the fact that the tail still seems attached but is turning black where the mild disconnection is.

add on: I don’t know how to attach an image! So I’m gonna attempt but if it doesn’t work let me know

Hi Ally, I'm sorry that your beautiful boy had this accident involving so much of his tail ! The tail will mot likely fall off and what you described for treatment is correct. You can actually snip it off with sterile scissors at the break point , then dab some watered down betadine + neosporin on it + wrap it in gauze. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself you can take him in to an experienced reptile vet or just apply neosporin + wait . Best wishes !

Hi, thanks for the reply! :) Through the day today the tail lightened up in color and lost the kink and has fattened a bit, I have another picture

Does it appear to be healing to you or am I crazy hahah.. cause to me it looks a lot better, but I don’t have a lot of lizard experience so I’m not sure! Is it possible for it to actually heal itself, or do you still think it will fall off? And since it’s so far from the end of the tail would it falling off cause any problems? Or would I just have to keep up with the betadine/water mix & neosporin until it closed up?

It does look like it's healed up quite a bit. Usually with an injury like is seen in your first pics, you'd expect the tail wouldn't make it. But if you only showed us that last pic, I think a lot of people would say that tail could heal up.
Only time will tell.

Definitely keep up with the suggestions ahbd made. You want to keep it clean while it's healing. The last thing you want is an infection to set in.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
