Hello! I was looking at my bearded dragon and I noticed that one of his toes were swollen and had some blood on it. He could have stepped in his poop (I feed him red peppers so his poop is red sometimes). What should I do? I've already disinfected it with betadine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! here is a side by side of what his swollen toe looks like and his regular toe looks like.

Hello,

It looks slightly swollen, but not too bad. When you used the betadine, did you dilute it & not
use it full strength? Did you bathe him also, in case he stepped in a mess?
It is always possible that he wedged his foot/toe area in between something in his tank & hurt
it trying to free himself.
Does he seem to be favoring the toe at all?

before I sprayed betadine I gave him about a 20-minute bath. the picture is actually from when I was giving him a bath, his toe was under water. I did not dilute the betadine but I did spray it off with a spray bottle a few minutes after putting it on his toe. He lets me touch his toe and he doesn't seem to mind. his toe doesn't look as swollen because I took two different pics of his toes and the one that is of his swollen is a bit further away so it looks smaller.

thank you drache613!

Hello,

How is the toe looking today, is it still reddish looking, is it still swollen?
Have you treated the toe today at all?
That's good it doesn't seem to bother him though, so hopefully he isn't in any pain
& it will heal right up.
Let us know how he is doing & how his toe is looking.

The toe seems to be going back to normal slowly, and I don't think I need to treat it with more betadine. He doesn't seem to favor it and he doesn't react much when I touch his toe. I think he may have just hurt it while crawling off his hammock. I guess maybe he just got hurt? thanks for responding!

Hello Graham,

Oh sure, that is a common injury indeed!
What type of hammock do you use, is it the fine, green mesh type? If so, they do get their
toes & claws caught in those so easily & will yank on them to try & free themselves. You
could consider getting a solid fabric type of hammock which is a bit safer.
I'm glad that he is doing better & his toe is starting to go back to normal size.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
