Hello so I have a beardie who is about 14 inches long he is almost 5 months and about 125 grams. So I have started feeding him canned crickets and they are huuuuuge so I de head them and de leg then then cut them in half is this ok ?
Thanks!

Hiccup he is 6 and Blaze is 4
Live bugs is way better--- I have never fed canned anything to my beardie--- I recommend dubia roaches--- they are way better than crickets as far as health wise

So you cant do dubias at all in Canada? These people need to be educated on this --- people hear roach and freak!!!!!!!!! What about the blow fly larvea? Can you get those--? I dont think I could do the de heading and cutting in half thing w/ the crickets-- they stink bad enough live!! :)

^tropical roaches are considered invasive and aren't allowed to be sold in Canada unfortunately.

Is the weather starting to improve enough for shipping now? Supercricket or TheWormLady should have black soldier fly larvae available which should be able to handle cool weather shipping better than live crickets.

I have tried the worm lady’s bsfl but they are too small and he can eat up to one hundred a day. I’m thinking that I might house lots of crickets in the summer then just freez eneough to last me the winter would that work? Also the bsfl only come in small so they just pass through his system. I don’t know if he even gets nutrients from them! Anyway I think I’ll do the cricket thing it’s supposed to be 16 degrees tomorrow so they should ship.
Thanks for your help!

Yeah I guess that's the rub with BSFL. They are quite small. I've found that I need to offer them one at a time so they get chewed and don't pass through whole. I know there are some folks on here from BC and New Brunswick who may be able to help you with some feeder ideas. It gets easier when they are older since they eat mostly veges rather than going through a ton of bugs.

Yeah I’ll definittry the one at a time thing however I did find a breeder near me in Ontario that is home operated and sells crickets for 9.50 per thousand so I think I might try them.
Thanks so much for the help though

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
