6 month old aggressive

Postby Srhking247 » Sat Feb 23, 2019 12:07 pm

Hey so i have a 6 month old that randomly turned agressive when i tried to pick him up. My temps are good hes in a decent size cage (36x18x24). Now ive read this can be a stage they go through? I was told to try and force handle him hut i feel like its made it worse. Hell puff his beard out when i stick my hand in his cage hes attacked me when i tried grabbing his food bowl. Hes attacked me while i was rea hing around him to clean his poop. At one point i wasnt able to feed him dried meal worms with tongs now i can which is a start. But any suggestions of what i can do? Should i just ride it out keep giving him treats show him im no threat? Also i never really handled him bc i was worried hed run away now hes a little bigger i figure id start to handle him. But i did handle him one in awhile. I got him back in september.

They do go through a teenage phase in which they can act moody or aggressive. This can also be a sign that something is off with their setup though. You can try offering some treats like silk worms or horn worms to win back trust but it may take some patience. The size of your tank is good. Are you using a good T5 UVB light for it? What are the surface temps around the tank?

Sorry for the late reply. I am used the t5 reptisun 10.0 uvb florescent tube. Basking is 100-105 degrees. And his cool side is 92 degrees. I also measure temps with temp gun.

I feel like hes never going to trust me. After being told to force hold him it has gotten worse so i stopped. When i was cleaning his poop he was on his tree basking u had to reach around him to clean and he puffed his beard opened his mouth and lunged at me which resulted in him jumping out of the cage anf forcefully grabing him to get him back. Probably wasnt the best way to go about it but i figured if he got away id prolly never see him again.

You'll want the cool side surfaces to be lower than that. Your basking surface temps are good but shoot for 75-85 on the cool side so there is a nice gradient available. It may take time for him to calm back down. Try offering some nice treats and see if that helps. Otherwise I'd just try to be patient with him for now.
