Where can I buy a light fitting in Australia?!?

Postby Lozza » Sun Jul 15, 2018 9:46 pm

Hey guys,

I’m looking for a new light fitting for a T5 uvb that can be fitted inside the enclosure.
Due to the lid of the enclosure it isn’t really possible to have a light unit on the outside of it as there is a wooden panel down the centre with two mesh squares on either side.
My enclosure is just under 19inches in depth and about 46 inches in length. It’s been suggested I get a fitting that is between half to 3/4 the length of the enclosure. I’d like to be able to use Arcadia or repti sun bulbs.
I’ve been looking everywhere and when I do finally find what I want the site doesn’t ship to Australia. It’s driving me insane, please help!!

Any unit or website suggestions would stop me from pulling my hair out. 🙃 Thanks in advance 🙂

You could PM kingofnobbys, he is in Australia. He has a lot of knowledge about bearded dragons and supplies.

Further to my PM .
I tried Arcadia AUS , and several online shops based in Australia and if they had what I wanted it was only one in stock and on back order ( anyone's guess how long I'd have to wait ) so I bought and imported my own.

….if you want a 24W T5HO , about ideal length for 4 foot long (1.2m long) tank IMO , then an Arcadia SLIMLINE 24W (24") T5HO Luminaire (reflector hood) is pretty good WITH an Arcadia 12%UVB T5HO tube in it .

Even better , these are sold with your choice of 6%UVB T5HO , or 12%UVB T5HO , or 14%UVB T5HO Arcadia Tube already installed in the price.
This is the place I bought my batch of 4 from : http://www.reptile-specialist.co.uk/ .
They also carry Zoo Med and Exo Terra T5HO reflector hoods in stock (ready to use on 220VAC 50Hz mains power - you will only need a Universial (UK to AUS) power adapter as the UK plugs pins are different (cheap from Ebay).

An Arcadia 12%UVB T5HO in a reflector hood will be a very good match to a tank 19" tall. Only need to arrange the basking platform so it's about 30cm from the tube , see viewtopic.php?f=34&t=235611

Thanks so much for your help. I’ll call the uk shop later today as I don’t seem to be able to buy from their website. I hope they’re happy to ship.
You’ve been really helpful. It’s good to know it’s the right product for my tank and beardie. She will arrive in about 3 weeks time and I haven’t seen her for 3 months by that point so I’m very exciting and wanting everything perfect for her.

I contacted her by email and asked for a quote …. then paid using PayPal.

As a back up plan, anyone know if this can be fitted inside the enclosure ?

ReptiSun® T5 HO Terrarium Hood

It doesn’t specify so I doubt it but thought it would be worth asking.

Really? As in it comes with fittings or I would need to make it work? Would this be just as good as the Arcadia one ?
Sorry I know I sound like an *****

I think it's a larger scaled up version Exo Terra Nano Hoods etc, the reflector is held in place with some screws which makes it very easy to remove the metal reflector allowing access to the inside of the box.
So when it arrives , if it doesn't come with clips to mount it (from the top to the roof or back wall of the tank) you should be able to remove the reflector temporarily (while the hood is unplugged and there is no tube in it) , use an electric drill to drill two or three pilot holes (maybe 3m drills) and then simply hold the hood in place and use a drill-driver with a suitable drill-driving bit (I favour hex head for this so use self drilling / self tapping screws with hex heads - they hold things better and are easier to screw in) .
Once the hood is secured to the roof or backwall , reinstall the reflector , install the tube , and you should be good to go.

That’s awesome thank you.
I contacted zoo med who have provided me with a link to some brackets they make to be able to fit it inside the enclosure. I have a carpenter in the family so I’ll let him work out the rest haha.
So looks like I’ll be going with this one in 24 inches and the 10.0 tube unless the company in England get back to me.

Interestingly zoo med recommended I use the 36 inch. Should I still go with the 24 ? Which will give me half cover or the 36 will leave just 10 inches uncovered by uv light.

Glad to see your post got answered. It doesn't really matter which one you go with as long as they have an area without uvb. I think it will come down to which will fit better in your enclosure. Cost can always be a factor too.
