Broken Bones

So my teacher has this bearded dragon that he takes care of and brings in during the school year to show her students as part of her environmental science classes and she is usually able to take care of it over the summer, but this year she won't be able to - she's going on vacation - so she asked some of her students if they'd mind taking care of it and I'd volunteered. So to say I'm just inexperienced with bearde dragons is an understandment. Well anyways this bearded dragon I noticed has a twisted leg (as you can see in the image below) and I sent an email to my teacher asking about it: she told me that the bearded dragon - and adult male named Loki - had broken it a while back and she had gone to see the vet, who told her to do a few things to increase his bone strength, but didn't set it.
So I was wondering if there way anyway to reset or to fix it, so that the limb was straight and normal again?

Hi Ava, that is from MBD [ metabolic bone disease ] and can only be treated to keep from getting worse but can't straighten out deformed bones. The leg will most likely stay that way but now it's very important to be sure he has adequate calcium [ but not too much at once ] in his diet, about 3-4 X a week . What type of set up does he have, what brand of lights and what calcium supplements does he get ? Can you post pics of his tank + lights ? Getting him out in the sun can be good for him, but neer in a glass tank, just set him in the grass on a warm day.


Does he get around O.K ?

Poor thing, it is definitely due to metabolic bone disease.
Please review your tank setup such as the type/brand of UVB, temperatures & foods given.
He definitely needs a good supplementation schedule to help support his bones so that he
doesn't get more deformities.
Is he eating very much?
