So we took Douglas to the reptile specialist, it took us 2 hours in the car and set me back £300. But it was worth it.

I was very impressed as to how much the vet knew, it was so much better than any of the appointments we've had with vets who don't specialise in exotics, but claim to know a little.

They did an xray, a scan, bloods & read the results of a fecal that we sent off.

The outcome is that Douglas has very low white blood cell counts, the vet claims this means he probably has an infection in his system that he's trying to fight off, he has suggested a course of antibiotics administered via injection, we're going to our local vets to have a lesson on how to do this..

I'm not thrilled about having to inject him, but I think it's best, they don't want us to administer them orally as they are worried it may upset his tummy, and with him already being reluctant to eat I do not want to put him off further.

The end result is not too bad, all his other tests were clear, and if it is an infection he's already doing a damn good job fighting it off, hopefully the antibiotics will give him the final push he needs to recover.

Hopefully that is the case and the meds will help him wipe out the infection. I've also found that it's often well worth the time and money to visit a reptile specialist when advanced diagnosis is needed. I've never once regretted it.

Good to hear that there's some type of diagnosis, hopefully this will be the thing to get him healthy. :)

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
