My 11 month old bearded dragon (female) was laying in her basking spot earlier, and she must have fallen and injured herself, I noticed her laying on the ground dragging her back legs behind her. She doesn't seem to be showing any pain or aggression . She fell about 2 feet, she definitely landed wrong. I don't see any swelling or knots or bumps on her back, so I'm not sure if its broken. She still has feeling in her legs but not really much movement. I don't think she's suffering from impaction as she went to the loo this morning like she does every morning. I have been feeding her the correct diet, using Calcium & D3 on a daily basis and giving her a fair share of natural sunlight everyday. So I don't see why it could be MBD because she was perfectly fine up until she hurt herself. I have never experienced this type of thing before and I am quite worried about her. She is my first bearded dragon and I've only had her for a week. She desperately needed a home and I provided one, but I really didn't expect this. There are no vets that specialise in reptiles in my area, I stay in Cape Town, South Africa. Where they are supposedly illegal ..She has not been acting weird or anything since I got her a week ago. She looks healthy . And at the moment she is just chilling like she normally does . She doesn't seem like she is in any kind of pain. Any help would be much appreciated. She has been fed 2 crickets this morning and she had a bath, but no poo. I must admit that its strange because she poops every morning. But she has been perfectly fine up until the accident. She has been given calcium & D3 daily and unfiltered sunlight most of the day. As I don't have a UVB light at the moment, I have one on its way. Was really not expecting this to happen , and to be honest I haven't really prepared for anything like this, she is my first beardie. And she was doing so well up until now. Right now I have everything out of her enclosure besides her water, she looks comfortable.

Yes she does move her legs when I touch them, and she seems to be moving around fine, both her legs are cocked inwards and she moves them with her body from side to side, so she is not dragging them behind her anymore? Is that good or bad? And wellington is very far from where I stay .. All the vets I phoned told me they are illegal, so I'm on my own ....

If she's moving things it's a good sign as it's probably not broken. Without a vet visit it's hard to tell if something is wrong.

Removing anything that she can climb on was a good start. It means she won't have to put too much effort into moving around and exacerbating anything. The not pooping could be because of the stress of the incident, so I would keep an eye on her.

Okay I will most definitely keep an eye on her. Thank you so much for the advice, I really hope she pulls through

She is laying nicely and seems to be happy. Should I turn the infrared light off during the evening?

Is it infrared or is it putting out a visible red light? If the light is visible then it should be off and I would discontinue using it. If it's infrared (ceramic heat emitter) and only putting out heat then it's fine to keep on in the evening.
