Ok so heres the story, my boyfriend bought ny little guy drakko aproximatly 2 year's old from the pet store they didnt specify but i imagine he was a surrender, he had him for a year and a few months then i took him on, he was very miss informed by the pet store and was told to have sand and feed him just worms as well he wad reccomended a compact uvb bulb and to replace it once a year. In august i took him and started to read about it more, got rid of the sand got rid of the bad light bulb just got one that was highly reccomended i cant remember the name but it was on this site. Also his substrate is a "sand mat" (more like a rock mat) So soon after he began to live with me he got a very swollen eye,
1st vet trip they said he was perfectly fine just some infection they gave me antibiotics for his eye called tobramycin 0.3%, they said they'd begin to work after a few days and if they didnt to come back, after a week nothing changed.

2nd vet trip (diffrent one with more reptile expirence), they said he looked as if he had mtb, he didnt move much (since we got him hes been fairly calm i mean he used to run around lots more more his eye has slowed him down alot) he was un aggressive at all, he was lathargic, under weight, not shedding properly as well they said he couldnt lift his hips properly

These things were not true before his eye got bad except for his shedding i had no clue they were supposed to shed in one big piece its always been little pieces, also he used to only poop every month or so , but warm baths have helped. At the beginning of his eye problem he didnt eat at all , ive started feeding him a homemade beardie baby food, just vegtables calcium powder papya and a bit of vitamin powder. He has started eating worms again but he has never before liked vegtables, my boyfriend and i tried to get him to eat them but he wouldnt so i feed him them through a syringe now

I soak his eye everyday i tried the eye drops longer they never helped, doctor gave him a shot of vitamins and a medication i had to put in his mouth for pain. I can not possibly afford another vet visit right now nor can i afford the tests to see if hes got mtb, each day when i soak his eye liquid pours out, sometimes little chunks of it too,

Hes been kinda more active recently today he finally opened his eye and this is what was inside can anyone please help me understand what to do im desperate and i am so scared that hes gone blind or that the infection has eaten his eye and i dont have the momey to get it removed or something like that [

Hi there, poor Drakko ! His eye is very infected but it doesn't mean he'll lose it. It would be sad if he went blind but keep in mind that as long as it heals the dragon will not have the thoughts like we would " why can't I see like I used to ? " They simply adjust and get on with their life. Since the antibiotic drops are not helping, try raw, unpasteurized honey mixed with a bit of warm water [ so it can be dropped in the eye ] Raw honey actually works on wounds and can be used directly in the eye, I've used it on my own dragon's eye infection and it healed quickly. Drakko may have gotten sand in his eye at some point and it took time to become this irritated. Did the vet try to flush it out ?

Can you post a full body pic of him to show his condition and also of his set up ?

As for having MBD, he needs calcium and sunshine. A good uvb bulb is also needed...If the bulb you got is the Reptisun, there are 2 types [ flourescent tube ] that come in the 10.0 strength . There's a t5 and a t8....the t5 is stronger and can be mounted on top of the screen, the t8 produces less uvb and is best to hang inside the tank. But if you can get him out in the sun [ in the grass if it's hot out , in a plastic tote if it's 65-70 because the tote absorbs heat + stays warmer ]

His shed is normal for his age, they shed in patches, they are not like snakes, so don't worry about that.
As AHBD stated, raw honey has a natural healing agent, it has amazing antibiotic properties . You can get it at one of those health food places like GNC or someplace like that.

For the going outside part i live in Canada and its actually been snowing the last few days definitely not drakkos kind of weather, anything else i could do? Even just having him by the window maybe?
Also no the doctors did not that bothered me i wish they had they just said thay they couldnt see anything in it and unfortunatpy he wouldnt open it but nobody ever brought that up, aswell do you habe any tips on getting him to eat vegtables eventually? Its beena battle with him.

Awesome thank you so much im really glad to hear! He does take quite some time to shed but i think how it used to be just in chunks was probably fine then thank you!

Hello,

Poor Drakko, that must be a bit of a pain for him, for sure.
None of the antibiotics for his eyes have worked? It looks like it is an infection of the inner lid or the nictitating membrane.
Can you gently use a swab to try & see if you can move the lower lid a little bit to take a look? I am wondering if it's an abscess, possibly.
You could try getting some raw, unpasteurized honey & dilute it down with warm water & use a swab to treat the eye, as suggested. It is a natural antimicrobial/antibacterial agent.
Since he may have compromised bones, you could try some liquid calcium for him to help out his bone strength. You are using the Reptisun 10 tube bulb?
I am glad he is eating again right now. It is hard getting them to eat their greens. You can try putting brightly colored peppers, or fruit in with the greens or even a few worms to entice him.

Let us know how he is doing.

Hello,

You can use the honey several times a day, as needed. It should start working immediately, also. Hopefully he will get some relief soon.
I really think it's an abscess.

If it is an abscess will the honey help or what else can be done for it?

That's a good simple set up for now, and his body weight is good, not skinny or anything. The Reptisun 10.0 will be good esp. since you don't have screen blocking out any of the uvb. :) Be sure to get a new bulb after 6 months. If you can add calcium to the smoothies [ I think you're making those ? ] that will help. Try making them with collard, turnip. mustard greens as well as squash. Add a bit of unsweetened fruit juice if he doesn't seem to like it.

And yes, the honey should help with inflammation and infection.

What area of Canada do you live in? I have a great reptile vet in Edmonton who wouldn't give you the brush off like the other two and has been treating reptiles for over 15 years. You said snow so I figured you're probably close to my area.

I agree the simple setup is good for now. As mentioned your ReptiSun should be replaced after about 6 months as the output declines. It will work best about 6'' above the basking area.

Do you have a more accurate thermometer for his tank? The dials aren't very accurate and don't get surface temps which is important when setting up lighting. An IR temp gun like this is a good bet https://www.amazon.ca/Etekcity-Infrared-Thermometer-Non-contact-Temperature/dp/B00837ZGRY/ A good temperature gradient is important as are accurate readings. You want the basking site to be about 38-42C and the cool side should be about 24-27C. Overnight if the temps in the tank stay above 18 or so, no additional heat is needed.

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
