Hi I'm new on here, I rescued two dragons about 4 months ago, one of them has developed a huge lump on his tail, I've tried looking it up on sites but can't seem to find anything useful. Can anyone help?

Is the lump hard or does it feel like fluid filled? It doesn't look good either way. I would have a vet do an exam and check out what's going on in there before it gets out of control.

It's probably fluid filled then. It's best if you can find a vet who is experienced with reptiles, dragons in particular. An inexperienced vet can wind up (inadvertently) doing more harm than good in some cases. Does the area appear to be growing or is it the same size?

Seems to be staying at the size it is now, he doesn't seem bothered by it even when I touch it but I don't want him suffering in any way. I thought at first the other one had bit him , but I don't think so they've always been together and aren't aggressive in any way to each other. Will have to look up a specialist vet I suppose. Thanks for your reply and help, appreciated :)

You will most likely have to call each vet to see if anyone there is experienced. You might get lucky and have a specialist nearby though. Good luck.

Have taken him to a specialist vet, they have kept him to do a biopsy. Could just be a cyst or could be a tumour, if it's a cyst they are going to drain it and flush out, but if it's a tumour then it's the inevitable. Will know tomorrow :(

Since no one else mentioned it - you will want to separate those beardies as soon as you can. Beardies are solitary animals and can randomly attack one another, leading to lost toes, lost tail tips, infections, etc. Even if they have lived together for a little while, they can still attack the other without warning.

Hello,

I hope that it isn't a tumor & has spread. Cysts or abscesses are very common among them so maybe it will turn out to just be that instead!
Do you know when you will get the results back?
Let us know how he is doing.

Hi, Vet has phoned this morning and its not sounding very hopeful, they are going to put him under anaesthetic tomorrow and have a look, if its a tumour and its branched then they have asked if its ok not to bring him round, if not, they will amputate and flush. So upsetting but dont want him to suffer. :(
I have taken note of the advice to seperate and if he did come home my grandaughter will take him and look after him .Thanx everyone for your replies and advice much appreciated. I will let you all know the outcome tomorrow. x

Just to let everyone know, he is fine. The lump was removed and doesn't seem to have spread. Got stitches in, just needs building up now as he's underweight due to being so poorly. But a happy ending at least. ?

That's great ! So nice that you had it seen to right away. :) Just wondering if it would be best for the other dragon to go with your G-daughter and for this one to stay in his home he's used to. It might be less stressful.

Hello,

That is terrific news the lump was not cancerous & it had not spread! :D I am sure he will heal up just fine. Do you have any pictures of after it was removed now?
I hope he is feeling well & starts to eat soon after he is normalized after the anesthesia has worn off.

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
