Hello folks,

I'm wondering how often the Reptisun bulbs need to be replaced. We've had ours since Sept, and we've got extras in the house. I'm wondering if it is every 4 or 6 months, or more often than that?

Many thanks in advance.

Every 6 is the rule of thumb that everyone uses as a guide. If you had a UVB meter you would be able to take readings and maybe get a few more months out of each bulb, or not? I will be getting a meter in the future.

Chris,

I got the Solarmeter 6.2 UVB and 6.5 UVI meters. Between the two IMO you would be better off with a 6.5 if you decide to get a meter down the road.

Mark can you please talk about the differences/advantages of one unit over the other in small words? :D

The 6.2 measures the UVB amount emitting from your bulb while the 6.5 measures the UV radiation emitting from your bulb. Make sure if you order the 6.5 you specifically say that you are going to use it for reptile bulb use outdoor use. (I'd recommend getting the 6.5 from Solarmeter just to make sure it was set up for reptile bulb use). Here is a good website worth reading:

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
