Dried crickets are not the best options ------------live feeders are the best --- I would go w/ dubia roaches as they are the healthiest for them -- they are easier to keep --- you would need a 10 gallon aquarium or tote get some dubia food and feed carrots and squash for hydration --- they dont chirp and they dont stink --- waxworms are like candy to them so feed sparingly --- BSFL are a great staple feeder and you dont haft to dust them - they are small so if ordering order large --- here some websites for feeders

Just from what I posted -- they are very easy to care for--- I feed them in the evening as they come out at nite to feed --- take the egg crates out of the container they come in and put them in the tank you plan to use --- I have dubia food I ordered and keep a dish filled for them and feed the carrots for hydration - I usually order 200 at a time -- my little one eats anywhere from 5-10 per day once a day but I also feed salad and was feeding BSFL but I guess they got tired of them - I add 1-3 super worms to the salad to lure him the glass bowl - and I also use butter worms and feed horn worms as well they are a hydrating worm so only 1-2 and if you have a young one make sure the worm is small they grow really fast and big - so my older ones gets the bigger ones -- I just ordered silk worms --- they are spendy and good feeder as well - so I dont feed them all the time -- I havent had them for a while and my younger one has never had them - the older one only once -- so its been awhile --

Wax worms are more so considered beardie candy bars. So some other good options would be silkworms, butterworms, dubia roaches, and BSFL. You can also throw in some mealworms, hornworms, and appropriately sized superworms.

You don't have to limit yourself to 1 type of insect. A lot of people can find ways to add some variety.

Roaches are fairly easy to keep once you have several breeding adults. Add food and water and the roaches do the rest. Clean out any old food. Occasional deep clean a few times a year with gloves and a dust mask.

BSFL can be bought online, keep the tub they come in inside the fridge. No watering or feeding required. They last a few weeks and don't go bad per say. They may molt into flies which are still edible for your dragon.

Crickets can be found at most pet stores. I buy crickets now and then for variety. They are 11 cents each which I think is okay.

Then there are all the "worms". Wax worms, hornworms, silk worms, butterworms, and probably more I'm missing. Their diets and lifecycles make them more complicated to raise yourself, but stores will carry some worms. People on Craigslist occasionally give or sell worms (found silk worms this way once, good deal). I do worms as a sometimes food for more variety. Ah mealworms, almost forgot those. Those are the easy to raise worms. Also superworms aka morios.

Locusts are legal in UK and some other areas. I'm jealous, wish I could get locusts where I am. Then some places can't get cockroaches

Anyway, any variety you can give provides more nutrients. Also more colors and textures and taste to be enriching for your dragon. I wouldn't want the same meal every day and my dragon only has the choices I give her

To be honest I'm only 15 and I dont want to spend a lot of my dads money so... If I feed it roaches and dried crickets is that enough with the occasional waxworms and silkworms is that enough, and of course his salad but... Is that enough my father is not a big fan of the live bugs.

Do not waste the money on dried crickets-- get some BSFL - they are tiny grubs and can be supplemented w/ the dubias --- its good your feeding the dubias - you can also add live crickets once in a while as well --- but super worms are a better choice than wax worms - you can feed them as treats but not as a feeder -- offer a variety especially w/ salad material --- I gave you a website for nutrition - if you go off of that and add your live feeders he should be healthy

If you start your own roach colony you won't need to spend as much money on feeders.

BSFL are very cheap if you buy them from the right place.

Live crickets are quite cheap too if you buy them in bulk and are willing to deal with them.

Mealworms are very very cheap and you can easily buy 1000 for 10 or 15 bucks. And that will last a long time as long as you keep them in a bin full of oats and give them a carrot and potato every now and then.
Same with superworms, except they grow quite quick and will likely grow bigger than your dragon can handle right now.

Lots of cheap options, but really, don't use waxworms as a staple. They are much too fattening. I wasn't exaggerating when I said they are like beardie candy bars.

No never feed live insects roaming you do not know what they have been into meaning poisonous herbicides etc-- you don't want to accidentally posion your dragon-- firefly's will kill him-- do not feed him those

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
