Feeding BSFL in a bowl??

My bsfl came today! I had everything set up, ready to feed and grow them... and then instead of the little yellow guys I was expecting, I got great big black things, ready to pupate. Oops  Little guy loved them though, scarfed 5 of them (doesn't sound like a lot, but they're huge and he's tiny hahaha) after a big cricket meal :D
Anyway, I was wondering if there's any way to feed them from a bowl/dish? I'd love to be able to put a bowlful in for his breakfast and just pick up the excess before I leave, but I gather they're very good climbers. Is there a trick to doing this?

You could try adding them as buggy cruttons to the salad / greens .

I had exactly the same thing happen when I bought Blowfly Gents to give to Toothless and Peppa as really young hatchlings (5 weeks old).

I'm not sure how long BSF remain as pupae , if you can I'd try to set up an enclosed breeder so when they emerge as flies you don't wind up with a house full black soldier flies zooming about and crawl all over the walls, ceilings , windows etc .... I think if that happens your mum and dad will reach for the fly spray and this is going to be toxic to you pet lizards and other feeder insects .... might be wize to relocate the BSF pupae and their breeder (tub) into the garage maybe ....

Were did you order the BSF maggots from ?

...you'd think the supplier would have sent maggots who were not close to pupating so they stood a chance of traveling to you and arriving still as maggots.

Too late for this batch as I suspect you soon have them hatching as flies. But maybe Fluon painted around the rim of feeder dish will do the trick if you order BSF maggots again and actually get maggots.

I've been told that they'll climb vertical walls if they want to!
The sheet that came with them said to keep them cool and leave them in the little bags they came in, to stop them pupating. Apparently they'll last up to 8 weeks like this, so I'm crossing my fingers.
Don't worry, my room is always closed off (we have a cat who I highly doubt is going to mix with the lizard), and only I'm allowed in, so no one's going to be spraying fly spray

I ordered them from black soldier fly larvae Australia. They don't give you an option about the size, so maybe next time I should find somewhere else that'll send me younger ones (not that we have much choice here ).

Well I left him with a little bowl of them this morning, although he didn't seem very interested. I normally handfeed in the morning, maybe that's why... a few managed to climb the bowl, so I have a feeling I might come back to a wormy mess tonight  We shall see

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
