I haven't used that heat mat so I can't say how well it does or doesn't work. I use this one which is low wattage and works pretty well for heating a colony in a 20g tank. http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-ReptiTherm-Heater-Medium/dp/B0002AQCL4

Just be sure to raise the tank slightly so there is a little ventilation underneath the tank as a precaution. I have mine sitting on a bakers rack shelf but any way you can lift it an inch or two should work. My colony is in my basement which usually has room temp around 60 or so and the floor of the tank gets to the 90s with this heater. I put the cardboard housing over the heater and they seem pretty happy.

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
