Tile on the walls?

Hi everyone,
I know I want to tile the floor of the enclosure, but I’m also thinking of adding some kind of tile/backsplash to the walls to cover the wood. What would the safest type of grout be, and do you have to seal the grout for the dragon? If so what’s the safest grout sealant to use around bearded dragons?
Thanks,
.ks.

I used slate backsplash, but it didn't require any grout. The large (12" x 24") tiles I used for the floor were laid flush, so also required no grout.

If I absolutely did need grout for tiles, would any kind work and would I need to seal it like you do when you make formations out of styrofoam?

That's... complex. The reason for sealing formations is to prevent the reptile from ingesting particles from the grout (they taste everything). Unlike formations, with tile there is only a small amount of grout exposed, so the likelihood of ingestion is very low.

That said, you still may (or may not) need/want to seal depending on the type of grout you choose/use.

Non-toxic grouts & sealers do exist--you just have to match them up to the tiles you want to use, and the application requirements.

If it were me, I would probably seal the grout in the floor tiles (more likely to absorb stains & odors from repeated defecation) and not bother with the walls (thinner gaps between tiles, and not likely to be defecated on). If the walls will be subject to repeated exposure to moisture (from cleaning, misting, or fogging) I might still seal the grout against moisture.

Others may have other/differing opinions.
