[TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY]

So here is a question ... What can we clean with to kill/prevent all these bugs from getting our little guys

Bleach solution?

Bleach and Alcohol solution?

Nolvasan solution?

Nolvasan and Alcohol solution?

Ammonia solution?

Vinegar solution?

Hot steam?

I also understand clean feeders and quarantine of new animals is also part of the process ... Just concerned with the disinfectant at this point.

I was using 10% bleach solution to wash out the viv as Trevor has high levels of coccidia and other parasites, but then I read that if you spray a lot of it and don't rinse it thoroughly it can cause serious problems and even be fatal. Trevor's viv is landscaped and it's not possible to rinse it properly so now I think I'm going to invest in a steam cleaner that can get into all the nooks and crannies.

the same goes for ammonia apparently

vinegar is good but not strong enough to kill the parasites

I like most of your options. But, Zemanski pointed out a couple of good points.

If you can remove your items then soaking and rinsing in bleach is your best bet. That is what I do.

If you can not remove them I believe your best bet would be the steam cleaner.

Nolvasan is what I put in the everyother baths of my beardies. Just a little bit though. It is a good cleaner but, I think I read somewhere that it won't kill coccidia.

Bleach and Nolvsan do not kill Giarda or coccidia ... Seems like steam is the only thing that works to kill all germs.

I have that Nolvasan Wound Surgical scrub ... Is it the same thing? How much do you use in a bath?

I use just enough to turn the water a little blue. It really doesn't take much. But, since we all have different size tubes, sinks, soaking containers that is probably the best answer I can give you.

i use the CLOROX ANYWHERE SPRAY.its recommended by many...i have three kids, and i use it all the time on there high chairs, toys, and anything else.its a mixture of bleach and water..it safe to use around kids...so i suppose its safe for BD'S as well.

it has the perfect amount that not to toxic but kills germs.

Steam kills coccidia and is the least harmful to beardies. I use my steam cleaner on my counters, sink, tanks, soaking bins.

I guess that would be ok as long as you clean it out really good and you don't leave the smell behind.

just got a steam cleaner :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8:

it's so easy to clean the viv now and no need to rinse or air it so it takes half the time

and a lot safer than using disinfectants generally around the house

Lysol! I use it all the time, I love it.And it doesn't seem to bother the dragons at all.

Only thing is it does not kill most of the organisms that harm BDs :(

Steam (150 Degrees and higher) + Bleach/Nolvasan = 100% kill rate :)

Bleach and Nolvasan do not kill Giarda and Coccidia ... There are others but those are them main BD (repilte) organisms.

Would a fabric steamer work the same as a "steam cleaner"?

Sorry if that's a dumb question.

I know my fabric steamer puts out steam that's hot enough to cause serious burns so I'm assuming that would be hot enough for disinfecting. Is that a safe assumption?

Yes ... That is what most folks use ... as long as the heat is over 150 degrees when it hhits the surface being cleaned ... It will kill everything ... Just keep it close to the surface and it works great :)
